Does anybody know if there is a handheld game console out there that roughly meets the following specs:

* Has a screen resolution bigger than 320x240
* Has GPU + GPU acceleration
* Has onboard wifi and bluetooth
* Stereo audio with headphone jack
* Programmable for homebrew
* Runs Linux

Honestly, I just want a handheld gaming console that I can write homebrew software for. I don't care about running emulators. But it seems that everything out there is stuck with 320x240 displays.

I built a PSPi v4 ( https://othermod.com/pspi-1000-version-4/ ) a while back, which has a 480x272 screen. I thought that would be pretty much perfect. But since it's powered by the raspberry pi zero, it's terribly underpowered (e.g. even the menu system/launcher feels laggy). The audio is also done via PWM on GPIO pins (which sounds absolutely terrible). Nowadays, you can get an add-on board to add a headphone jack, which wasn't available when I bought mine.

Some consoles I'm aware of:
* ClockworkPi: 320x240 screen, has GPU, but currently no GPU acceleration
* ODROID-Go: 320x240 screen, no headphone port
* GCW-Zero: 320x240 screen, mono audio (due to a hardware design flaw)
* RetroStone: 320x240 screen
* Freeplay Zero: 320x240, underpowered
* Freeplay CM3: 320x240, no bluetooth/wifi
* PSPI: poor audio quality, underpowered
* Arduboy: 128x60 Monochrome LCD, Arduino based (so it can only run one game without needing to be re-flashed), but it does have a pretty active homebrew community

There's a bunch of GPD devices out there, but as far as I can tell, those seem more like small laptops rather than a dedicated gaming console. They are also quite expensive in comparison to anything on the above list.

So I don't know. Still searchin'. Any thoughts?

Yeah I knew that response was coming. Pyra isn't available yet, so that doesn't really help. Pandora is discontinued, so I can't buy one of those either. Honestly, I'm getting kinda discouraged waiting for the pyra.

Nice.

If you actually read my post I only pointed to the raspberry pi zero stuff being underpowered.

Every time there is good(ish) news it feels like we're only Two Months out. Right now, though, it feels a bit different than before. The dependencies have become far fewer. The unknowns of which wires & traces to connect from where to where are sorted, hardware has shown to be able to work as it should, etc. The, "can it happen," questions seem to have all been worked out.

If FA gets the cases done per deadline, cases will exist.
If cases exist, prototypes can be assembled and shipped (all other parts are set and dependencies have been met).
If prototypes ship, actual working physical ordered and paid for Pyras will exist in purchasers hands. (I see that as a huge step... :) )

Production boards (keyboard/main, CPU, display) have final files (!) and are (Status? Being produced now? Ordered?)
Case molds will move down the street. New producer is on board to produce cases to cover the main production.
Most components are in-stock and ready for board population - which can be scheduled as soon as the boards are produced (above).

It really does feel like there is less 'do' left, even though there IS still some 'wait' involved. Maybe crossing a border to less 'invention' and more 'production'?
