OK...

Somehow I have managed to get the SD card formatted and mounted...there is NOW an icon on my start up screen for the SD Card.

I was able to make the pandora folder and the subfolders in that

I was able, after hooking back up to my wireless network...to download the PNDManager.

It's there in SD/Pandora/apps

I CAN'T MAKE IT DO ANYTHING!!!

I click on EXECUTE...and nothing freaking happens!

So now I do not know WTF to do.

PNDs don't run from the filemanager. you have to go to the icon placed in the menu or desktop if you put it in the /pandora/desktop directory.. I believe PNDManager is under the system section in the menu.

Yes I read.

It DOES NOT WORK.

I DO NOT HAVE ANY ICON IN MY DESKTOP...WHICH I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE SINCE I PUT IT IN THE FREAKING APPS FOLDER...I AM USING XCFE.

I'm sorry for yelling, but I am doing EVERYTHING the way I read how to do it...AND IT STILL DOES NOT WORK!!!

The creation of the /pandora/appdata directory is vital, if you haven't done it.

Yes I read.

PNDManager won't show on your desktop if it's in the app directory, it will show in the menu under system.. read what Alerino posted.

My bad, but I have better luck putting PNDs in either menu or desktop.. not the app directory.

Seriously read the wiki or manual before asking tons of questions on the forum...

PLEASE I DID READ. I did everything like it said, and I am not getting what it said I would get!!!

Please don't accuse or assume I'm not reading this stuff!!

I am using XCFE.

I was told to put the PND file into the apps subfolder.

That is what I did.

I have

SD/Pandora/apps/PNDManager.pnd

BUT IT SAYS THAT I SHOULD NOW HAVE AN ICON ON MY DESKTOP...WHY DON'T I??

I did what it said to do...I did what I was supposed to do...I did everything like I read.

why am I not getting what I was told I would get?

My only suggestion is trying to re-download the PND, sometimes the server is flaky and the result is a corrupted download. It's been a reported issue.

It does not show up in the System menu either

I have

Bulk rename

CPU SPeed

Gigolo

PNDStore

Pandora Input Tester

Run PND Application

SD-Mass Storage

Switch GUI

Terminal

Thunar File Manager

Toggle Bluetooth Status

Toggle USB Host

Toggle WiFi

Usermanager

That is ALL I have under system/Menu

And I do not have an icomn on the desktop for PNDManager, either.

OK...let me try this again...

Here is EXACTLY what I have...

The SD card has an icon on the desktop now.

I have the SD card with the following folder

pandora

(I did this in lowercase letters)

In that folder I have 4 other folders...

appdata

apps

menu

desktop

I now moved PNDManager to desktop.

I took it out of apps

I still have no icon on the desktop for it.

I still have nothing in the system menu for it.

Now I have read everything, I have done what I was told to do and it still does not work will someone PLEASE tell me why?

Another suggestion sometimes you may need to eject and reinsert the SD card for it to display properly.

Not sure what to say other than what we already have.. It normally JUST works.

Are you sure you downloaded PNDManager fully ? that the file is the right size?

Restart your Pandora after putting new apps in apps or desktop folder. sometimes it does not appear without restarting the device.

OK, trying this.

This time I am downloading it to media/pandora/desktop

if that does not work I'll try again, and download it to media/pandora/menu

Kumaki, forgive me for being blunt, but...

the questions you are asking are annoying. Many of them can be solved with simple common knowledge, looking at the manual, or just trying to figure it out for a bit.

It also certainly doesn't help that you're YELLING and constantly using terms like "WTF" and "freaking", which makes you look impatient as well, not exactly the kind of person I like to help.

In the case of your most recent problem, all you need to do is restart. For some reason, some apps will occasionally not show up immediately when you install them and a restart is needed. It's really rare and easy to fix, hence why nobody knows what you're talking about. Honestly, even from a Windows-dependent, I would expect the idea of rebooting to be an obvious thing to try.

Not trying to be rude, but you're more likely to get useful help if you try to solve the problem yourself first and be courteous and polite if you need to ask a question.

If this path is exactly what you have. I see your problem.

From the looks of it you named your SD Card pandora. If this is the case your path should be:

Code:
/media/pandora/pandora/desktop/

Edit: Oh, let me add Firefox and the Repo seem to hate each other. Try downloading PNDMANAGER.PND with another (Non-Gecko) browser like Chrome or Opera.

Restart your Pandora after putting new apps in apps or desktop folder. sometimes it does not appear without restarting the device.

Now see, that is the sort of thing that needs to be in the manuals!!

Now...it is on my desktop...yay

now, let me try this....ok, it is working.

I'm now using it to install MAME4ALL Beta.

Let's see if THIS works.

If so, then I'll just need to figure out where to put the ROMS and I'll be in business.

I'm sorry for seeming impatient and so on...but it really had me scared I'd bought a five hundred dollar brick, because I could not make it do anything, in spite of reading and following directions.

OK...I see where the ROMS go now, too. So I have to get some ROMS on this thing.

Of course, without a card-reader, I am at an impasse for tonight, still have to get me an external card reader tomorrow, but it looks like I might be on my way.

Just be patient - it's not a PSP or a game console for kids - it's a computer and you need to learn how it works - that's part of the Pandora experience, you will get more knowledgeable about many things after you start using it :)

I typically don't need a full restart of the device, The most I have to do if it's really stubborn is to log out of XFCE and back into it.

That's true, this can also work. By the way, if you log out of XFCE, are your cards unmounted and can be removed without risk ?

LOL...patience. That's tough.

Seriously, I'm sorry for being so freaked out earlier, but...it was like...I'm reading the manuals, doing what they say, and not getting the result they say I'd get...it was very frustrating.

The re-boot got the SD card icon up.

THEN...I figured part of my problem was that I named my folder "Pandora" with a capital "P" - it HAS to be with a small "p" they don't tell you that!!

They don't tell you about the re-boot thing, either. Now, as a windows user...I'm used to installing somethng...and it comes right up on the desktop, no re-boot needed.

Anyway, I now have the PNDManager working and that is all kinds of ace for downloading stuff, makes it a LOT easier than the PNDStore.

I have downloaded so far MAME4ALL Beta and FBA.

I have to get the roms on the unit yet, but that will take getting a good card-reader, I HAVE the roms, lol.

I figured out on my own where the roms go on the SD Card...just a matter of looking at the directories.

So that all should work.

Once I get some ROMS anyway.

For shiggles I am now downloading Firefox...so I can browse the web a little bit with this thing, just really want the ability to check my email and stuff on the fly. As the co-owner of my own company, it is very helpful to be able to do this. and the smartphone is not the answer, either.

I'm actually thinking that later on a Kindle Fire would be the right device for that...but, hey, I just want to fool around a bit and see what this thing can do.

Now, I'm also interested in SNES and NES emulation as well as Sega Genesis...and a few others.

Is SNES9X the only SNES emu or are there others?

Is there a wiki page or something which lists all the emulators available so that I know what I'm looking for when I go in through the PNDManager?

Any help much appreciated.

At least I seem to have basically gotten this thing working.
