I have all three and HL2 is approximately 93 light years ahead of the other two.

Doom 3 was just average, the start was good but it got boring very quickly.

Halo 2 is the same as Halo, they could at least have done something a bit new. I'm not on Live yet though which is meant to be where it really shines.

HL2 is exactly how I want a FPS to be. Intriguing story, great physics and clever puzzles that show it off, good AI (I guess it could be better but I don't think Halo 2's is anything special either), the way there are parts where you feel safe and get caught of guard... It's just great :D

I too cant understand how anyone would rate a GTA game, and espescially not SA, as as good as any of the aforementioned FPSs.

I'm a dork and don't have any of them. :(
But I am interested in Doom 3 (but not in Halo 2, since
I don't have an XBOX). Does it really suck as much as
people are saying it sucks? Or do these people just expect
more than should be expected.

the reason I rate GTA above any of the three is the sheer depth of things to do, you coyld play it fora VERY long time and not do ANY of the missions (although if you don't do the first lot of missions its difficult to access the rest of the map) as well as a great storyline, good soundtrack (not as varied as vice city though) and the cherry on top: MULTIPLAYER!!! I will the first to admit it could be better but since this is the first multiplayer GTA I think they did an admiral job.

Halo 2 is a great game though, and Doom has a nice atmosphere. It's a shame Doom doesn't really do anything new, halflife 2 though...I will admit in my mind its a bit of a close shave but San Andreas is better, I think.

I seem to be one of the few who has all 3 and even though Halo 2 was extremely dissappointing it still beats Half Life 2 and Doom 3 due to its superior AI and pcaing. It's vehicles are much better implemented that Half Life 2's although I prefer Half Life 2's pacing and storyline. Ultimately it all boils down to gameplay and Halo 2 has to win in that department.

P.S. Don't listen to that guy up there, yeah you know the one I'm talking about. The Halo's storylines are nothing special. The first one was a generic but extremely well done sci-fi romp but the sequal will leave a sour taste in your mouth. Not that it's storyline is not well done but it is blatently obvious that it was cut short. If anyone tries to convince me that was a cliffhanger I'm going to get my Extendo-Boot(tm) out. Any game that finishes with 5 or 6 major plot elements un-explaned let alone concluded is a failure and I'm sure most people would feel this way if they have played through the game.

Yeah, it was cut short because they are going to make a Halo 3. I'm sorry, but you have 2.5 million people against you saying that Halo 2 was and is the best FPS of the season. ;)

EDIT: I do have all three games and Halo 2 wins by far.
EDIT(2):But remeber, this is an opinion topic. So we should all respect each others opinions. :)

^ yup
and for the recored, they left a lot of things open to make Halo 3 sell a lot better, its a bad trick I know, but thats the deal
also, Halo 3 is supposed to come out next christmas, the next xbox ( which will blow the console world away, and will be closley followed by the sony and Nin consoles which will be.. decent ) is supposed to come out when??? next xmas
so, It's painfully obvious that Halo 3 will more than likeley be released on the next xbox because this xbox cant even keep up with Halo 2 or Doom 3 ( its like playing Quake 3 on my Dreamcast, ugh.. ) the next xbox's crazy specs will be the key target for Halo 3 proboly
so, it will probly be a release title
thats just some stuff on Halo 2 for ya, case ya kared

does anyone else feel that the next generation of consoles is being released prematurely? I mean, it doesn't seem to me that they've nearly reached the full potential of any of the systems (ps2, exluded I reckon, but then thats been out longer than any of the others).

I HAVE ALL OF THEM AND THEY'RE ALL GREAT!!! But tend to lean more towards Half-Life 2, Doom3 is a bit annoying becaus eof the shadows but you get used to them, Halo 2 was fun but it's sorta like the first one point and shoot but with more... but aren't they all? :p

it's got to be half life 2, the physics are great.. and (if you have a good vid card) the water looks absolutely great.. and the whole game looks very nice graphically especially with AA and AF enabled, i am using 4X aa and 8x AF on my 6800 ultra by reccomended settings.

Counter strike source is fun to play online, great package overall IMO.. i am already on chapter 10 on HL2 :)

Doom 3 is ok, but too average for me.. the graphics do it for me definatly, but the game play is too slow although i do think some parts of the game are a little scary.

Halo 2 i hear is great on xbox, but im not really fussed on playing FPS games on my consoles so its up to the user entirely.

You can play vice city multiplayer :)

Yeah, if you like buggy and jerky crash-prone unexciting gameplay. Wait for 'Blue', if that is actually coming out.

Hi,

Did not play HL2 so Halo2 is the best for me.

Multiplayer is so fun (with xbconnect) ;)

Bye

Hello,
i voted for HalfLife 2, because it is really an astonishing game, and for my opinion clearly the best... BUT i don´t recommend you to buy it, because damn Steam is really a pain in the arse, it just serves to mock honest buyers (of the "retail" box, mind you!) who spent their good money on it, while pirates go undisturbed. Of course i don´t excuse piracy, but i, who bought it in a store, had so much trouble with steam, that i wish i wouldn´t have bought it.

Well its still an brilliant game... maybe there´ll be a steam- free version sometime.
I ´ll never buy a a game that is distributed via steam (or similar systems) again.

I have not played half-life 2 yet, but the idea that there is an fps better than halo 2 just seems crazy to me. Halo 2 is one of the best games I have ever played. I am addicted to xbox live.

I might need to check half-life 2 out.
Should I play half-life 1 first (I haven't)?

Why is Doom 3 even on this list. I hate it.

I voted Halo 2.

I have not played half-life 2 yet

Seriously dude, Halo is a great shooter but it just can't compare to HL2. I could see that personal preference would make someone choose Halo over HL2 but, really, you can't ignore the advancements this games has made to the genre and in turn games as a whole. The physics, the environments, the AI, the animation, the storyelling...almost everything is an improvement on what has gone before. I know this might sound a bit gushing but go play the game for yourself and see what I mean. Well worth £30 of anyone's money (works great with the minimum specs, too).

Hm, let's see.

I played Doom 3, but it was more of a chore. Atmoshere my ass, people seems to confuse "athmosphere" with "dark like a bear's colon"; if you want athmosphere play Undying - that is a really great game.
Anyway, back to Doom 3. It's not that it was entirely crappy. It was just so... Quake done badly. Whenever you entered something with the lights on, you could tell that they were going to break and you were usually right. I played the game for 10 minutes (counted after the chaos started) and could not only anticipate where the monsters would come from, but actually prophesize. "Yay, and something shall brust through that vent just about nowish." - 4 seconds wait - vent bursts open.
It was fun sometimes. Ramming into an enemy with the chainsaw purring was still very satisfying, but mostly it felt just plainly boring.
So it's not Doom 3 for me.

Halo 2. Haven't played because I don't have an XBOX and I didn't like the first one. Halo 1 severely pissed me off by only allowing me to carry 2 weapons at a time. Ever so often, I come back to the game and start playing again, thinking that everyone says it's so great and that I probably only have to push a little further, probably it's only the beginning... last time I gave up on the Covenant spacecraft. Go into room. Baddies spawn. Shoot baddies. Marines arives. Go into next room. Baddies spawn. Shoot baddies. Marines get killed. Marines arrive. Go into next room....
Driving around in the Jeep was fun, but it was a pain in the ass to control that thing with the keyboard. Full speed or stop are the only options and that just doesn't cut it ;)
So, if Halo 2 is just a continuation of Halo 1, I fear won't like that either.

Half Life 2. Now that sounds interesting. I liked the first Half Life, not to an extend as some people do (finish it in 56 minutes and the likes), but I liked it. I was intrigued by Half Life 2, wanted to get it - until I heard about the Steam Activation. I thought "That can't be so bad".... then I read the EULA (basically they write that they reserve the right to charge you for using Steam any time they want, that they may stop Steam any time they want [disabling you to install your game], that they still own the product and that they may fuck with you in any way they want, and without lubrication too) and watched that activation process in action. They data they want blatantly break the Telemediarecht and also the Telekommunikationsgesetz (§§91ff), furthermore there is BVerfGE65,1[45] and the TDG (those are all German laws, but what the heck, just wanted to get that off my back), also it took 3 hours to install this game! That was the moment when I took the 55€ I had put aside for Half Life 2 and swore myself never to use this money to buy HL2. You are not even allowed to sell the game, dammit! This was actually the first I thought about pirating out of spite. you can't rent it, there is no Demo and if you don`t like it, neither the shop you bought it in nor Valve will take it back (the shop because it's open and we all know how easily CDs are copied and keys are written down and Valve because of their EULA - believe me, happened to a friend of mine. Nice thing is, you have to unpack the game to read the EULA, and THEN if you disagree with it, you can't even give it back and get your money back because it is unpacked).

So.... I have some problems with all those games, basically :D Maybe HL2 is a good game, I don't know. I would really like to play it, but I won't pay for it because of the Steam activation.

So, in conclusion, I didn't vote :D
