I just came back here recently when i saw the announcement for the new gpx2. and i mentioned some comments about gamepark holdings != gamepark, two new gp32 coming up etc.

i understand that the gpx2 is a new console by gamepark holdings, but that's where my knowledge ends.

so what's the fuzz all about?

in a message in the gpx2 thread someone mentioned a reply of gamepark holdings explicitely stating:

gp holdings != gp

Gamepark have split into two rival companies (had a falling out ?), Gamepark and Gampark holdings. Gamepark holdings is/has developed the GPx2, Which is their successor the the GP32`s crown. Gamepark (The other company) are rumoured to also be developing a handheld, Though not a direct successor to the GP32 (wide screen being one of the oddities), Though not alot is known about that partcular system.

GamePark Holding release GPX2 - thats the ext gen GP32

Gamepark release XGP - thats a Non open PSP look alike that does Korean wireless TV - Not a lot of good for emulators - it has widescreen

for more details click the LARGE RED LOGO on home page top right

EDIT: Trooper beat me to it :-(

Okay, I see... that's pretty odd.

So when did they split and who of them developed the GP32? Who is the one which is responsible for the creation of the BLU as well as the distribution in Europe? And is Mister Lee now the C.E.O. of GamePark or GamePark Holdings?

I wonder back over on the off-chance and find out the there are two new Gamepark consoles on the way :)

Anyone else think that GPX2 is a weird name choice? Has there been a GPX or GPX1 yet?? I don't think so!

Its weird that the specs aren't that much better than the current GP, but isn't backwards compatible! Everything will have to be recompiled (which may not be that difficult - who knows - but the source will be required).

It's obvious really, the GP32 was a single processor machine, and the followup is a dual processor machine, so its got double the amount of cpu's (note I'm very careful that I don't say double the speed). So GP32*2 = GP*2 or GPX2 :)

What about stuff like GPEngine where the source and the dev is gone? No PC-Engine for GPx2?

NOTHING WILL EVER BE PORTED EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

I see your point though. For as long as noone that can code wants to port a PC Engine emulator, we won't have one. And we don't know how long that will take, if ever.

Can somebody tell me - in all the readings, I still don't know the screen size. The website mentions "up to 720x480". What does this mean? Resized image/missing pixels etc? What is the native resolutiuon of the LCD?

there are many emus for gp32 opensource, and a straight port which only uses the new mhz wont be that hard. You think about the Fday... ryleh said he will release all emus with source!! so there will be much emus available, if someone ports those and i dont think that this wont happen. its also linux based, that means many programs.
so it will have software, only problem i can think about is, is a weak community!

Okay, some infos from me:

The LCD is the BLU+ one. The higher resolution is the max resolution it can handle playing movies, it will scale them down in realtime.

Regarding GamePark Holdings and GamePark:

Mr. Hong is from GamePark Holdings.
All old GP32 developers except for one (Mr. Jeon, the one who now wants to release the allmighty handheld and is from GamePark) are working for GamePark Holdings.

So yes, the gpx2 basically is the 'real' GP32 successor.

Everything's clear now?

How about linux? Will that hog all of the extra 40 MHz leaving the two consoles the same speed for running emus?

Maybe some linux freak could tell us.

720*480 is maximum movie resolution.

It is QVGA 320 x 240 just like the current GP32. The other size just refers to the largest movie res that can be fed into it. It scales on the fly.
