gp32 could browser the net via
1) serial cable
2) usb cable hope soon
3) event better, wifi [ if we manage to make usb work ]
By "Serial Cable" do you imply that it would be possible to connect a GP32 to a cellphone w/ built-in modem through RS232 and then browse the net with it?

Obviously it would be very slow but would it be possible according to you gp-nux de guys?

(et bonne chance pour la thèse au fait ;)

well, i didnt think of that one, well i think it is possible if you have
all the needed informations, but i am not rich enough to find it usefull ;)

merci bien ;)

will it be possible with a powered USB hub to connect thing like USB HDDs, Cards Readers, USB CD-Rom Drives and so on? it would be really usefull i think, you could copy without a pc files from a bigger medium like CD. or Flashdrive or something like that on the go on the gp32.

I can't seem to get this running on my GP32, i download the nanox version edit initdr.

I put them in the correct directory it starts loading then after it gets to that bit dev/urandom it says like can't acess something or the other then the screen immediatly goes white.

Sorry i can't give more info and stuff its just that the text flashes by so quickly.

Could someone maybe give me their version which is working on a BLU with Aquafish firmware.

Thanks

it works extremly fine with many different firmware so it's not at all linked with this ;p

I advice you to copy the files using gpDrive which will avoid every "file name" problems ;)

- get gpdrive here: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=8146

GPdrive isnt working for me, anyway i use the cracked version of PCLINK so the filenames are changed i think.

This is how it is setup in gpmm.

I remember reading something about removing the hash marks but i can't find it again, i suspect it is something to do with the start file.

EDIT: fixed a mistake

Hi OmarNawaz ;)
the hash marks is removed by default in the file, here is the exact line that you'll execute with nanox :
./nano-X & ./nanowm & ./nxkbd & ./ntetris & ./nxview tux.gif ./tuxchess

if you put a # face to this then it won't be run anymore...
for exemple in the line
#./nano-X & ./ntetris
if you remove the # then it'll run the small tetris only ;)
but don't forget to put a # face to the line I quote in the first paragraph ;)

so in your case your start file is really ok & it'll be able to run the virtual keyboard + open the gif called "tux.gif" + open the tetris game :)

by the way don't forget to don't edit the start file with wordpad which will add some bad things at the end of each lines, that Linux won't understand ;op

hummm imo PClink will change the names by "cutting" the too long names & put some ~ instead of the end...

u don't have a SMC writter???

edit :

btw if you beleive you got one pb with your start file then pm me your email & I'll send mine to you tonight ;)

I finally got it working using the micro release it seems "quite" fast and looks so promising. :D

So i am now on a mission to publicise the linux capabilities of gp32 to every major linux hacking community out there, i have already submitted news of the gp32 linux project on a couple of major Arm linux handheld sites.

I am reaaly dumb with this kind of linux hacking stuff so i figure the best way for me to help this project is by publicising it as much as i can.

Did you know the embedded linux community pay through the nose for arm dev boards, they consider a £98 dev board that only runs at 66mhz "CHEAP" i mean come one the Gp32 has so much more to offer for the price.

I suggest other user of the board who are interested in the linux project to do the same because the best way to get this project moving faster is to create interest and somehow get some experienced kernel hackers on board

I'm happy that you finaly success in it :)
yeah the micro release is the fastest one actually :) but I invite you to try all other releases avaiable at the moment, it always worth to see :)

& your idea to spread the news is perfect :) I'll try to do the same (even if I'm not inside any Linux community :p)

great
thanks a lot omar
hope we will get some feedback

unfortunately i am realy on a rush and cant work on the project until 7 september
but if someone want to help/test some things
just msg me

what i am waiting for the next weeks/months
some new tests/updates from toholl [ the BIG guy ;) ]
[ especially, write support and maybe some usb patch]

what i want to try when i ve got some time
: a port of a cool fast browser for nanox
: some gui/launcher for the apps
: port of some fltk applications for nanox
: test/fix chatboard support, fix little configuration problems
...

could you maybe post some specific technical information about the things you need doing or are having trouble with, you know like code and stuff.

I need it so that i can post in more technical forums like kernel trap and if i sound like i know what i am talking about i might be able to generate more interest.

Hope your school stuff goes well

Thanks

well
i think you should contact toholl then, need help with sound bug, smc write, usb support, freeing memory and other sutff, see the gp32linux sourceforge site
or gp32linux.com

otherwise the thing is, that we have few ram, so we have to use light librairies
so we need to cross compile the applications for arm with uclibc, and it s quite a mess sometimes

the experience and binaires can be used on other handhelds
like ipaq,yopi,zaurus and so on
so the knowledge gained by working on gp32 is usefull
i gave some advices to a friend to make a project for his thesis on ipaq
it uses the fltk lib [ cf my tutorial ], and it seems it s quite easy and fast

baahh i am having trouble running linux again i think Gpdrive worked on fluke, since then had to format my card.

I was thinking could someone who has NanoX running maybe make a backup using pclink then i could restore it on my Gp32 is this possible?
