I'll firstly say Hello :D I've been coming to this site a few times before but now thought I'd join the forum as I might purchase a GP32 within the week.

My main questions are about emulation (as that is what a 26 year old gamer wants)

What I want to know is, does the GP32 work successfully in this area. I have played emus of games on other machines and they sometimes fail to deliver. Which is highly dissapointing.

Basically could you people tell me the BEST points of the system and the worst, please be honest.

Also, what is your favorite game on the system (all emulation included)?

There are too many good point to list.
Lets just say, For Emulation on a handheld, It`s the best there is. :)

As for emulated games on the GP32, Again too many to list.

Just me being lazy, It`s sunday after all. :)

sorry u prob heard these ?uestions b4

About once a week

The quick breakdown:

Full speed
atari 2600
C64
Atari ST
Turbo Grafx 16 / PC Engine
NES
Sega Master System
Doom 1 & 2

Some of the more obscure old systems are probably full speed as well, but these are the only ones I've used.

SNES is not full speed, but probably will be eventually. Same for Genesis / Megadrive, but the betas are not released yet. NeoGeo Pocket Color will almost definately be full speed, when it is eventually released.

If you'd like a more detailed breakdown of the available games and emus, check the stickey at the top of this forum marked "All newbies look here first!!!" ;)

I'd like to know what people think of the d-pad.
It looks a bit ...err dodgy on this pic.

B)
It's not a d-pad, it's a micro joystick (like the the NGPC). It actually works just like an arcade microswitch joystick, only much smaller. It does take about 10 min to get used to it, since it's MUCH more sensitive than a d-pad, but I actually like it. It can be a bit annoying on games that only need 4 directions though (like tetris).

It's not fragile at all, if that's what you were asking.

Are there any decent arcade roms that work well, the cool games, noty something like Pong :(

And I love my NGPC joystick so thats a HUGE plus point already for the GP32 :D

no there are no really great arcade emulators for the gp right now. There is like xcade and some others that play the super old school arcade games but nothing more recent. As for the emulators alot of them are prtty slow but there are some that are pretty close to perfect. I will just list a few that I use most and a very breaf description.

sms32 - sega master system / game gear - rocks full speed full sound

little john - nes - this is my favorite emulator it has it all full speed/sound tons of options even light gun support with a cursor really really great stuff

frodo - c64 - very well done full speed / sound

scumm - lucas arts advernture game interpreter - plays games like day of the tentical at full speed very nice but crackly sound

snes9xgp - playable somewhat but still slow. you will get slow but playable speed at frame skip of 3 w/ no sound frame skip 6 w/ sound its ok and works ok for rpg's but is still slow

doom - pc port of doom one and two - this is amazing runs better than the gba version sound is great speed is great really worth it

wolfenstine - pc port of wolfenstine - this will also blow your mind runs perfectly

gpengine - turbo graphics 16 / pc engine emu - also amazing full speed / sound has great games like bonk and perfect arcade translations like out run and after burner

gpvgb - good gameboy elulator Its a little buggy I only use it to play my old black and white gb games but I think it can play gameboy color too godd emulator but some games have graphics problems

that wraps up everything that I have on my one 128 smart media card. This have moved along alot since I got mine a few months ago. Other things worth concidering are mp3 playback which seems alright with headphones. As well as divx playaback for movies. I have movie park and its very watchable more so than I thought but that is old software there is a new mopvie palyer gpcinima which is supposed to be even better. Over all I would say its really worth it if you are a retro gameing fan its worth it to me just for the nes emulaton but thats my favorite system ever and it really runs well.

The only prob with the dpad on gp32 is that it is a bit sensitive and takes getting used to. But once your used to it, its great...

Quake was ported, although it is VERY slow because gp32 doesnt support floating points very well.. the doom port by craig works great, no probs with that at all. I couldnt get wolfenstein3d to work. And descent is also very slow. I havent tried heretic...

Moviepark is a must buy... It plays divx movies at 10fps with sound, and works great. I can fit a whole family guy ep in 12mb, so i can fit quite a few on a 128mb smc.. It costs 5$ from joygp.....i havent tried gpcinima

You can't get moviepark anymore, only the more advanced GPcineme, which supports upto 24fps however this means large file sizes (and if full screen running the gp32 above 133mhz), so its better to stick to about 15fps/full screen/133mhz.

My fave gp32 emu is the PC Engine one with about 60 games and the SMS emu (either of them) with robocod, psycho fox, sonic etc.

Im wondering my joystick works up down left right but it doesn't work when i do up and right the diagonal direction. It does work for all the other diagonal directions I'm pretty sure i know it works for left and up. Right works great by itself and same for up just when i try diagnal right it dont work :(

What doesnt it work with, perhaps the emu/port doesnt support all of the other directions? I havent noticed this, and dont have the batteries to find out right now...

All emulators nes c64

In kirby i can push up and left and fly left while toucvhing the roof if i do up and right i can only fly right but im falling cause the up wont work with the right

Think of the direction that doesn't work on a clock it be between 1 and 2 12 being up and 3 being right

make sense? The joystick works great pushing it up or right but not together :\
