Gp2x Now Slightly Broken

I have absolutely no idea how (Honestly!) but the screen on my GP2X has been smashed in, in the corner - I turn it on and there's no real problem with the image, but the plastic screen cover is truly done for. Any advice?

I turn around to pick it up, and it was like that. If I accidently leant on it and it did that, then perhaps I should wrap it up in bubble wrap next time

It's pretty annoying because 1) I'll either have to get a replacement screen or 2) I'll have to send it back. So, choices? Do I see if GP2X.co.uk will take it back? (although this seems unlikely) or find somewhere I can buy a replacement screen? Anybody know where?

the screen or the screen cover?

The screen cover - the screen itself is fine - I mean, not a single pixel damaged or working incorrectly - just the plastic cover on top. A considerable amount of force seems to have taken place in the bottom left corner, causing the screen to break inwards and split in several places.

Where is exactly a problem? In a case or in LCD itself. Please tell more?

It's looking like a front panel is damaged. If you are finding it's unacceptable then I'd try to get a replacement.

Then you are lucky - screen cover can be replaced or even whole front panel. Asks your shop for that.

Don't worry - we all break things from time to time.

Will the warrenty even cover this? I'm not after a replacement, i'd be happy if they could just replace the screen cover.

gp2x.co.uk doesn't seem to have replacements screen covers, I know gp32z does tho. You said something about gp2.co.uk so I imagine you don't live in the US so it might be annoying

I doubt a warranty will cover you rolling over on it

New covers are only something like $10 though.

Where from?

I didn't "roll" on it, the worst I could have done is put some pressure on it with my elbow, My DS has suffered worse and hardly gotten a scratch - not that I was expecting DS robustness, it's still quite insane how easy they are to damage.

I'm as much to blame as the unit of course, but one of my only real complaints about the GP2X is the build quality. <_<

No, a GP2X i'll have a hard time getting fixed is

Oh well, i'll phone GP2X.co.uk anyway, afterall it wouldn't have happaned if the build quality was a little bit better. I doubt they'll do anything, but it's either that or end up having to fork out more money for it - which I already have had to do with a card reader because the unit's usb transfering is unstable.

That piece is on with glue, just snap another one on and you are good to go.

It worked perfectly if it saved your screen, it is a fully replaceable part, in fact my 2 GP2X's were MK1's and I had to put the plastic screen "windows" on myself :p.

If that screen is anything like my 2 GP2X's were then something happened to it, those were heavy plastic and shouldn't just crack. (IE, somehow a great deal of force was applied to the screen area, treat it like a pocket PC not a GB and you will be fine in the future.)

That piece is only worth about $10, email your distributor or the distributor of your choice.

I wouldn't complain about the build quality of the GP2X, my 2 were plenty robust.

At least with the GP2X you actually get what you pay for, unlike consoles that amortize the "true" cost of the console over 5 games at a ridiculous price.

Edit: I'll check the screen on my MK2 when it gets here, ordered it from Play-Asia yesterday and it is already in the US!!

It really will be okay, it is removable and replaceable.

I supose - I just wish I knew how the thing broke - I can't remember even touching it since setting up a game or two, and at the time it was working perfectly. It's going to be one of those life long mysteries....I guess i'll just have to grit my teeth and order a replacement screen - but ordering one from America is ridiculous, why doesn't the .co.uk site stock them? <_<

Did anyone else have access to where it was kept? I once had a laptop which mysteriously "blew up" and I'm convinced a flatmate must have been screwing around with it when it happened.

Sadly I can't prove it, but looking at the screen it looks like an object of focussed force (screwdriver, pen, whatever) was used. It seems a bit unlikely though, my brothers might be horrible gits but I can't see them being so purposely vicious.

I mean, it's still playable, but I hate things like this, as my attention always drifts to it during a game. With a good site to get a replacement, and instructions on how to remove the screen, i'll be set to go.

i've dropped my gp2x at least 4 times on pavement since getting it in feb. I have to say the build quality is a lot better than that of my PSPs

Vynx, the GP2X is not like a DS. One accident or mistake and BOOM, it's gone. Craigix, you should put "fragile" on the shipping packages because any type of movement could practically dismantle the GP2X.

the gp2x is not fragile at all....
Yeah, it's pretty solid from my experience. Some sort of focused pressure on one corner of the screen is bound to break the protector. Not a design fault where I come from. Why's the guy who doesn't have a gp2x commenting on it's durability?
