Gp2x Keyboard

It would also be nice if the projector could connect to the stand so it's one item to lug around instead of two pieces for this addon.

And then also it being folding so it's smaller to carry :)
Hehe, we both had the same idea at the same time - must be good :)

If this is, say, about 60 quid, I'll definitely get one. Unfortunately, it's probably going to be a tadge more than that. Any chance of an estimated price nigelibrown?

This is pretty cool but I might want a more practical setup. This looks to be rather costly. I don't want to even immagine how much the bluetooth keyboard + bluetooth adaptor will cost, probably more than the gp2x itself, eek. Although I probably would end up paying any cost for a tv-out + second controller dongle.

Well, I think this keyboad is alot neater:

Will be introduces sometime 2006 and should list for around $100. :)

well thats pretty awesome, they could surely manufacture those for less than $100

EDIT: probably less than $10 crazy profit margin, but im just a cheap ass

Fantastic!

If we can get a text editor thingy on the GP2X it would be perfect for my English reports!

Cool, but no good idea the conexion type since the TV will be connected to the EXT port... better idea would be to connect it to a USB concentrator connected this to the GP2X USB port.

Bluetooth version will be conneted via SDIO or what?

Who knows, they could make it a pass-through connector so you can still enjoy TV out.

I figured out the TV problem long ago.

my thread detailing tv and ext fix

and NO USB, NO USB, NO USB, NO USB, NO USB, NO USB, NO USB, we need that stickied.

The chip connected to the usb on the side of the unit, if you can be bothered to read its spec sheet before posting like an ass, DOES NOT support any form of anything other than MASS STORAGE.

P.S. if this is stickied, then you have no excuse nosing around like a noob.

I'd post proof, but it so damn easy to go on the wiki and find the hardware pages with links to all the manufacturers websites, I just wish people would read up on it before they jizz their pants over "usb"

Edit: I am cranky, my GP2X took a dive, I am waiting for a Jtag to reach gp32z.com so they can fix it. I can see so much good stuff coming I will have to wait for and having to see people bitching all over when they haven't a clue is really depressing/angering.

Looks really nifty! expect to pay as much for that as for the gp2x though. Here is the manufacturer's page, where you can get a lot more info, including MSRP ($199). Add parts and labour, and we're looking at around $225-$250 for the gp2x version. Mind you, if you can afford it, it looks way cool and it's a lot more portable than any other handheld keyboard I can think of.

[Edit]
Hey Nigel, I just had an awesome idea - how about building that gizmo into a stand for the gp2x? something like this:

I really hope to see that kind of stand/keyboard, but I just wonder how we can manage to connect EXT... :(

I have the one just like above, but believe me, it is not so easy to bring that every where WITH your gadgets like PDA, handheld or laptop.

If you focus on the mobility, I think the laser keyboard is definitely the best, but I, too, might be stay way because the price. <_<

To be honest, I don't really understand how the laser one works :s

It was in popular science a few years ago, it senses the vibration of your finger hitting the tabletop, or something, maybe it has a motion camera inside or it sees whether you are covering up the pattern.

I'll try and dig up a link.

Edit: Found

Popsci.com article on VKB

Vkb-tech homepage, makers of the keyboard

I am a walking encyclopedia, I have been reading Popular Science since 1996, and I am only 23, sometimes it comes in handy :)

hmmm. . . . headquarters in California, R&D in Israel?? that is kinda strange.

also they say an IR sensor.

Won't work because it has the IR sensor at the bottom that would be blocked by the GP2X in this case.

That's not possible as the GP2X is a USB client not a host... or the new device could be a host, but then the GP2X registers on USB as a MASS STORAGE DEVICE. So, I guess it's more likely that it will connect to the RS232 interface.
I mean USB Hub with autopowered ports.

A hub is not a host. Also you would still have the MASS STORAGE DEVICE problem, so I think it is very very unlikely.
There where talk about some sort of usb "hub" that would make it possible...
And it's NOT a hub, it's like a power sorce for use with usb ports that dont have USB host, so you can plug in none powerd stuf.

I'll go search the forum for a picture or something. Anyone remember this??
And stop the shouting of usb that wont work with this thing I talk about it looks like it realy will work. And there where some sort of portable selfpowerd hdd.

And as this guy says:

there is moore stuf for a usb device then just mass storage.

I'm not telling that I know anything. will try to look it up. but if anyone know anything plz post it.

Well ok, raise the gp2x a few millimeters. It's not like my drawing was an accurate blueprint anyway...

Fine, You win, you get to write the drivers, or ask PLX for them :D

These still won't run bluetooth dongles, just because the chip is designed to be a network dongle itself, that is like plugging two usb hard disks together and expecting them to transfer when neither of them has a host chip.

PLX Netchip features

Do you understand the difference between host and slave?
It is not just power, I could hook up power on my own, I am not uneducated.

The fact of the matter is that it is a Slave, although it looks as though PLX has made their chip to support it being a network or communications device.

This is a good thing, but we would still need a computer with a host interface connected to it to do anything with it, it is not going to just start running peripherals like it is a Host tomorrow.

Anyone else think that not only would it be a cool idea, but it should be very possible, is to make a virtual touchpad with the same technology, there could even be versions of the VKB with a touchpad part built in.

That would be badass.
