GP2X GP32 Repositories

Besides the openhandheld repository, does anyone know of an FTP site or some other repository that would make it very simple to download the entire GP32/GP2X software libraries (publicly available)? I know ED plans on keeping the site up, but there is a lot of software that would be gone forever if the site somehow disappeared like gp32x.de eventually did. I'd like to have my own DVD or thumbdrive of all the software for these 2 particular devices (I own one of each), but downloading them 1 at a time would take days. (I actually thought the accounts got brought over to this website as well, apparently not)

I used to have 1GB & 4GB GP2X packs uploaded somewhere, but I assume they've disappeared into the etherbits... as for how I got my crazy collections... I went through openhandhelds.org, gp32spain downloads (no longer working), all the forums (gp32x, gp32spain and gp32emu, etc.) and even pdroms and slowly collected everything... I do intend to make some extras available and even make some GINGE prepacks in a short while here. Thought about a repository, but we'll see how things go...

As for gp32x, it's still there as gp32x.de... excellent resource of knowledge, but sometimes you get an adult friend finder pop-up :p

P.S. here's a link to the topic with the 4GB & 1GB pack... http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?/topic/54638-random-info-gp2x-has-alot-of-content/page__view__findpost__p__880346

It would be a bit creepy for some of us to be friends with children, so I welcome something that helps find adult friends.   ;)

Thanks... I'll be going through the both of them once I get them downloaded. I wish there was more support for the GP2X today. I don't think any game really pushed the system and though there are still sporadic releases, it's rather few and far between. Just because it's old (like 10 years) doesn't mean it's no good and those AA batteries mean you can play it forever. I wonder how many WIZ machines don't work anymore because of a dead battery and no replacements (that I know of).

Better question, how many Wiz's are dead with pixel cancer/rot whatever it is...

Glad I could be some help! Keep your eyes open for a few new (to the public) games in the next bit here, just wanting to get some stuff with GINGE sorted and I'll be pumping out a few prepacks and releasing a few games (with the original authors permission) as freeware!

P.S. Orion is the one that makes me smile, still dribbling out GP32 releases on the down low every few years :p

Are The Wiz screens known to go bad prematurely?
Besides not being that much of an upgrade from the GP2X, the battery was the main reason I didn't get it. I have and still use an Atari and a Colecovision and I felt like by using proprietary batteries and the tendency for the batteries to go bad even when sitting, that within a few years, they would be unusable because of the battery. Even the highest quality LiPo cells top out at something like 1000 charge cycles and only if you take the greatest care of them. The screen was a big selling point, but I figured it just wasn't worth it if I couldn't use it within a few years. I think it would have been a better idea to just increase the number of AA cells to 3 or 4, even if it would have made it slightly larger.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPj9dmltpkA <- best example of what oled cancer on the wiz looks like that I could find...  :p

Proprietary batteries can be hit or miss, but that screen did totally make up for it ;)  I'm just hoping mine doesn't get pixel rot from spending this last month in a shed @ a friends... I'll be glad to have my own little area to exist again soon :)

If you can live with changing the batteries every few hours and the gamecontroller, the GP2X is still a great system for retrogaming and hombrew.
I thought the same about upgrading to a Wiz or Canoo, it just wasn't much of an upgrade. Pandora is a different story though.

Ziz still compiles his games for the GP2X. Hase, Puzzletube, Snowman and Meteoroid3D all work fine on the GP2X. Hase needs a little overclocking (I set to 240mhz) and 'Tweak Ram Timings' switched on in Gmenu2x, turn particles setting from 'Very Much' to 'Much' and it works fine. Just over a week ago Ziz fixed Snowman (missing platforms) and Puzzletube (missing Sparrow3D logo) for the GP2X, so if you haven't downloaded them recently, get the updated versions. Ignore the fact the date hasn't changed on the download page, they are updated:

I have a few bits and pieces for the GP2X which are not in the Archive. I'll upload them when I get chance to sift through my collections. Talking of missing stuff, maybe some of you GP2X users can help me with some things that now live in the void. A couple of the following bits I had, and stupidly lost over the years from formatting drives and SD cards and whatnot.

Noldor's last compile of Uae4allgp2x (v0.8.0.1). It fixed some F200 dpad issues and added USB support. I didn't have this as I was unaware he had released an update:

A couple of the last releases of Vice v2.0 by GnoStiC. Releases 8 and 10.
I had these binaries on an SD card that got corrupted, and the rars on an old laptop drive which I now believe was formatted. I need 'vice20_x64_8.rar' as well as 'vice20_x64_10.rar' as it contained the new 'x11_pos.vkm' and 'x11_sym.vkm' files. I remember GnoStiC's versions being slightly faster on some games, and the 'reset machine' function worked:

Monaco GP2X v1.03 by Jamie Lutzuver. Had a Car AI fix. Only Monaco Gp2x v1.0.2b is in the Archive. I never had this as I was unaware of the release:
http://pdroms.de/gp2x/monaco-gp2x-v1-0-3-gp2x-game
And mentioned here by Jamie in the v1.02b thread:

Clonk2x v0.9 by Daid. Even though v1.0 is better (which is in the Archive), the tutorials worked in v0.9, so it would be nice to have both. I had v0.9 as it was in the Archive at one time, but can't find it in my collections. Was probably on the same drive as GnoStiC's Vice releases:

Thanks in advance.

Amethyst: I possibly have the MonacoGP and Clonk2x, just gotta get my stuff outta buddies shed into my new place and I'll see if I can dig 'em up... I'll also check for those emu's when I get a chance :)

We need to form a big GP2X missing/lost to time thread and fill it up :p

I might have some GP2X files stored somewhere as well, but I will need to go through tons of old backup CDs then. I assume most files are stored in the official repo's though.
GnoStiC still appears to be an active developer and you might be able to reach him here mustafa.tufan at gmail dot com

I still have loads of files for gp2x as well. Still have a bunch of unsorted archives in a folder and some backups of my sd cards with loads of stuff. Clonk is also among them with about a dozen mod packs (most of them official releases by redwolf design which have disappeared from the net).

Still wish there was a decent clonk rage port for pandora. It's just not even half the game without the level and game editor functionality. The sheer amount of complete scenarios and objects that can be downloaded as user created addons make the game huge in replayability and fun.

I found a way around the battery problem and still use my Wiz(s) to this day but  some people gave me a hard time saying that it was a dangerous solution and I don't want any trouble so whatever...

I do have 2 screens out of the 5 that had screen rot but im sure they got water in them as well...

Thanks for the responses. Would be great of we could find some of these missing bits and pieces that have disappeared from the net. There is one thing I'm glad I did do, and that was to backup my old 16gb SD card I had in my GP2X before formatting it to use in my Pandora. My GP2X spent a few years in the wilderness before I decided to make use of it again. Bought some decent rechargeables, a 32gb SD card for it, and put everything back. It would have been a complete nightmare finding the original archives and unpacking everything again. I have taken some screen caps of what I currently have on my SD card. Some of it isn't in the Archive at all, and there are a few instances where the Archive contains older versions than what I have on my SD card judging by the 'readme' docs. I'm going start combing my old drives for the original archives.
