GOG.com

I joined out of curiosity... people already opened discussions for the already known issues, but I can't see interactions from gog staff in those, them are mostly chats between the users.

I got this automatically for free because I already owned both games, seems cool, maybe someone is interested, they packed DOOM1+2 together with a lot of other mission packs and many enhancements.

The last patch of GOG GALAXY introduced a new functionality that is already hated from the most... a way to force people to make reviews after playing a game, spamming a review box that can't be disabled even from the settings...

But the bad stuff is that now some components always crash in errors for many people, and seems like cloud saves and achievements are not working anymore without those components running...

I'm really curious to see what's there in their updating plan for GALAXY... if they really have a plan or they just add things at random when they wake up in the morning...

Yeah, GOG galaxy could be so great but instead it seems like they add silly stuff no one wants.

What's so fun about it?
It's a reskin of "Alone in the Dark" (1992), but without the official names.

The rooms in the images seems the same, and the intro is exactly a copy/paste of the AITD (there's also the reflected image in the frog eye ...), just with changed textures/models.
The gameplay seems exactly the same from 1992 ... with all its lacks ...
BUT "The Mansion of the Macabre" is managed as a NEW game (in english / french), with a ~18 € price tag, while the "Alone in the Dark TRILOGY" costs like 6 €, and you get 3 games (translated in 5 languages) ...

Just have a look at the images / trailer from GOG and a playsession of the original game.

EDIT:
Some more funny stuff about the game is that it contain a HUGE list of copyrighted material, because they don't want anyone to STEAL or USE a "SIMILAR" title for a game or steal all their ORIGINAL assets of the game.

It will be released also on STEAM, BUT WITH A DRM PROTECTION !!!!!! Because you know, everyone wants to get an innovative game like this, with its super futuristic and responsive engine, and also so many polygons...

I'm super curious to see what will happen... if no one will sue them I will be disappointed... I have seen too many FREE fan projects made better than the original games and put to oblivion "just because copyright", now they did plagiarism that seems even worse than the original and they are SELLING it...

EDIT 2:
Originally the game was released only on "itch.io" with the title
Alone in the Dark "Remaster"
but then turned out that you just can't use a copyrighted title if you don't have the rights, so they changed the name !! And that's it !!

Still about "The Mansion of the Macabre", there was a FAQ in the first release (when it was still called "Alone in the dark: Remake"), and this is some text in it... the last part is the most interesting.

Q. What is this?

A. This is Tatou Team's official answer to a remaster never being developed for the original 1992 classic, 'ALONE IN THE DARK'. A modern remake was released this year but it's not the remake or remaster that fans including ourselves wanted, just another typical over the shoulder shooter with none of the original designs of the original game, mansion, sound effects and pretty much nothing that made Alone in The Dark the masterpiece it really was.

This is a faithful, nearly 1:1 remake of the original game, with remastered soundtrack, completely new graphics and redesign but keeping as faithful as possible to the original game. A walkthrough for the original game will pretty much be able to get you through the game from start to finish in the same way as before.

Q. Why?

A. Because we could and we wanted to. Simple answer!

Q. What's the differences between this and the original?

A. This is a near 1:1 remake in terms of game loop, but graphics and some game mechanics have been completely revamped. It plays in pretty much the same way as the original.

Q. What is Tatou?

A. Tatou is the French name for Armadillo, which was Infogrames' original logo back in the day (add a rat tail!) before the terrible Atari takeover. We adopted Tatou as our dev team's logo and name, and also the original Alone in The Dark's executable in DOS was Tatou.com.

Q. What's the legal status of this?

A. We don't charge anything for downloading and playing this, aside from a remastered soundtrack and sound files (which we are sure are samples from somewhere originally), we haven't used any other original assets of the game. We've remade everything from the ground up. This is a passion project giving fans what they always wanted, gratis and without warranty. Your use of this download and playing the game is down to your own enjoyment and love for the game. We don't benefit in any way from this, other than the fact that we can say we did it first before anyone else. We are hoping this gets the IP owner of AITD's attention or even Bruno Bonnell or Frédérick Raynal himself and release this as a bundle with the new game.

(...)

Q: I paid for this! Have I been ripped off?

Yes! We don't charge for the game, and demand a refund as we don't own the IP to Alone in The Dark, and no one should be charging you for royalty free, fan produced software. Although, you can donate for our hard work and dedication.

EDIT 2:

seems like the copyright code reported under the game page, doesn't exists...
