I can't get a single one of my Neogeo roms working with GnGeo2x.

I have the most recent sets that the latest MAME recognises and plays.

I also have the unzipped neogeo bios in the roms directory.

Everything just comes up with 'Unknown or Unsupported Romset'.

Now from reading around it looks like the emulator author (Hi!) is using very out of date romsets to base this emulator on. What .dat file do I need to use with romcenter to audit my roms for GnGeo2x?

I believe there is none... <_<

GnGeo2x's supported ROM sets gets messy on games that have encryption on them. A lot of those games have mix & match (and misnamed) files inside the sets in order to make them properly work. The ROM sets themselves could be misnamed as well. The non-encrypted games follows an old MAME version, but I don't know which.

You can look at the RC files to see how the ROM sets are formatted, then you could either edit the RC files or format your ROM sets to match each other. The less-hassle solution would be to just download the ROM sets that have been already formatted and have dumps for use in GnGeo2x via BitTorrent.

I've attempted that but the one torrent I found did not include what i'm trying to get working on it (svcplus.zip, which as far as i'm aware, doesn't have protection on the latest romset).

I'm trying to correct the .rc to go with the latest svcplus.zip that works with MAME, and i've come up with this:
QUOTE
longname SNK vs Capcom - SVC Chaos
game svcplus MVS "SNK vs Capcom - SVC Chaos"
SFIX 0x20000
svc-s1p.bin 0x0 0x20000 NORM
END
SM1 0x60000
svc-m1.bin 0x0 0x60000 NORM
END
SOUND1 0x1000001
svc-v1.bin 0x0 0x400000 NORM
svc-v2.bin 0x400000 0x400000 NORM
svc-v3.bin 0x800000 0x400000 NORM
svc-v4.bin 0xc00000 0x400000 NORM
END
CPU 0x1000001
svc-p1p.bin 0x0 0x600000 NORM
svc-p2p.bin 0x600000 0x600000 NORM
svc-p3p.bin 0xc00000 0x600000 NORM
END
GFX 0x4000000
svc-c1.bin 0x0000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c2.bin 0x0000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c3.bin 0x1000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c4.bin 0x1000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c5.bin 0x2000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c6.bin 0x2000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c7.bin 0x3000000 0x800000 ALTERNATE
svc-c8.bin 0x3000001 0x800000 ALTERNATE
END
END

It all loads ok, and dumps the gfx all ok, but when I go to load the rom it loads the m1, then freezes and doesn't go any further from there. No error, no quit back, nothing. Any ideas?

Just tried to use the desktop dumpgfx program at all - It bumps my CPU load right up to 99 and does nothing. It's been sitting here for 30 minutes now on full CPU load and it's not actually dumped anything.

This is based on MAME 0.122, right?

You allocated the filesizes incorrectly. I bolded the incorrect ones and added the correct values for you to see, BUT even with the correct sizes, it still didn't work; I tried it. :(

GnGeo2x is definitely a picky emulator. <_<

The one I have that is working is from a torrent, and the ROM files in it matches the default RC file. Try looking for this one instead. :p

EDIT: Now that I looked closely at the working set, it seems to be a mix & match based on the JAMMA PCB version of SVC. :p

Aye, just found the torrent and got it working.

You're right, though... It's far, far too picky. :(

Apart from that, very very good emulator. I just hope that support for now mame standard romsets will be added so we don't have to hunt around for these 'special' romsets.

Trust me, I love being able to play Neo games on the go, and I have nothing but respect for the coders of Gngeo2x for all their work, but why did they choose that particular romset format? What was the basis behind it?

To this day I can't play Samurai Shodown V Special because I cannot find a matching romset (that Gngeo2x will support) ANYWHERE. And renaming does no good for me either...

I got a working "Samurai Showdown V Special" ROM set. :)

The only problem with it is that sometimes it completely freezes while you play. :(
