Eclipse has ported the Fenix game "GhostPix" by Marc Robledo to the GP2X.

From the author Marc Robledo:
"GhostpiX is a puzzle game where the player must reveal the ghost picture. It contains 497 puzzles. It's made with 1175 lines of Fenix code. A 60% of the puzzles were made by me and my betatesters. The other 40% are based on the Mario's Picross 2 puzzles of classic GB."

It's a fantastic puzzle game and worth the download. It has also got a nice soundtrack. If you haven't heard about picross yet, go read the game rules at wikipedia.

Download it at the archive.

PS: If you've got any problems with short lags, change the background music to another one using the option in the start menu. After that it will all work fluently.

Ghostpix is one of my favorite GP32 games. Everybody should play it :)

If its fenix and on GP32 then its not exactly porting it. At most installing a volume control and maybe remapping some keys. I mean you just have to write a script for most gp32 games to work...

<_<

I know Marc is working on a special gp2x and he wants to have a few things tested out first (like the background music problem), and I asked him already a while ago if I should port the game to the gp2x and he said, wait, I`m working on a 2X version.

I would be highly pissed off now if I were Marc, you should really first contact the author before "porting" the games without knowing that they are still being working on.

If someone would have released a gp2x version of the minigame project I`d say, fuck you and play a bad version with crashes and all the flows, and would not release any 2X version at all...

;)

Isn't a game thats exactly like this for the GP2x already. Its white though. One of the first games for the GP2x too.

This is not an official port.
As Quiest said, I'm working on a port for GP2X.
Please wait for the final version, as it will have a new and better interface, improved graphics and features (such 4 slots for saving even in mid-game!).

Lets hope that it's soon then :) I spent many hours yesterday playing through the practice levels and when i complete the first level of the second difficulty it crashes without saving. This happened twice

the news post should have said "Eclipse uploaded the gp32 version of Ghostpix with minor changes so that it will work on gp2x"

there was definitely no real porting done here.
Damn straight! Just what I said!

Afaik all he did was make a script file, cause the source wasn`t made puplic by Marc, if I remember correctly.
Getting credit for making a "port" by just editing a script is... you know.

Hurrah! That's about my only complaint with the original game; some of the later levels took an age to complete without saving.

True, but Ghostpix is an excellent version with nice presentation, interface and music.

Saves will be incompatible though. I rewrote all code, and some puzzles were added/deleted, so the puzzle numbers changed. Also, saves will be encrypted this time (no cheating!).
If you like the actual Ghostpix (beta version 0.8 GBAX2005) presentation and interface, you will love the new version! :) Oh, and music will remain the same.

How is it even possible to run GP32 games on the GP2X? I thought they were vastly different?

These games are written using a game engine called 'Fenix'. Since the game engine has been ported to the gp32 and the gp2x, it is easily possible to play them on both.
It's something like with Flash. All the big operation system's have got a client app that will run the same code. And this client app is on the gp2x and on the gp32 in this case.

Ugh. After playing this game, the lag spikes that happen about every 15 seconds that last over 5 seconds are incredible. Its really not fun to play with those lag spikes.
