Okay, I stole this off the Hardcore Gaming forums, but it was such a good topic I just had to contribute. Seeming as I'm not a member on those boards, it's a case of sharing the magic, or something.

Anyway, the main point of it is to talk about games that you love, but are not aware of anyone else liking them, either because they're just plain unheard-of or because there seems to be a general consensus of hatred directed towards them throughout the gaming world.

Maybe eventually it'll be a list of the Best Bad Games Ever or something. I'm hopeful of xmas Magic.

I'll start us off, by talking about:
Skeleton Krew!

Let's see, it was made by Core (those crazy kids who did Chuck Rock and those Tomb Raider things) back in 1995 or something, originally on the Amiga I think, but I played it on the Megadrive. It was one of those isometric 3D shooting things. That's the history, and it was amazing, but I've never found anything favourable written about it. It hasn't even got a Wiki!

That's the history, or as much as I know anyway. The game itself, now I can see why that's an acquired taste. The sound's terrible, it's really short, there are only two weapons, and it's incredibly easy. I finish it every time I play it, so I must've finished it around fifty times by now. I don't know what it is about it, but there's something that always keeps me coming back. Probably the storylines I make up in my head to go along with the action. Usually something to do with intergalactic plumbers dealing with a zombie-infested space station, which is a lot more fun than the actual plot (some kind of bounty-hunting thing).

And that's why Skeleton Krew is great. I feel similar about Decap Attack, but I reckon there's a few people around who really like that game, so I won't talk about it here.

What's anyone else got?

I absolutly love MYTH on the Spectrum, great gameplay, great story, great graphics (for the time) and I still complete it a few times a year now, when the mood takes me.

Also brings back lots of memories for me, it was the first time I bought a £9.99 game.

I don't think it's really remembered or noticed as a classic for the speccy as much as other games, but it deseves to be.

:D

I liked Azurik on the Xbox. Everyone else hated it. It did have a long quest, many varied worlds and used the Metroid formula (get abilities unlock areas you couldn't get to before, puzzles etc). The puzzles were challenging too. While it did have it's share of flaws, it was not that bad.

pitfighter.

everyone hates it, but i love it. not only was it groundbreaking at the time, it actually is a very very good game if you look underneath the jerky wooden graphics and difficault controls :)

Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project

I don't know what it was, either games are not allowed to be made like this anymore or it was considered a step back from Duke 3D. It was just meant to be some fun Duke Nukem game made in the style of the 2D ones but recreated with 3D graphics. It sure didn't sell well (could be that there were better things to buy around the time of release) and I've heard plenty of negative comments criticizing the fact that it's a side-scroller. Maybe it doesn't beat the other PC Duke titles but I love it.

X-COM: Apocalypse (not the 3D one, the isometric one that came out after X-COM 1 & 2)

I still play it every now and then!

Best puzzle game mankind has ever seen, Pitman aka Catrap for the gameboy b/w,

Scooby Doo The Movie on GBA. If i remember correctly, Advance Magazine gave it 34%!

I thought it was amazing!! :) It was around 9 levels of ismoetric adventuring. There was lots of 'finding this and giving to so so' but i enjoyed every minute. Playing with headphones, the soundtrack was brilliant (dramatic orchestral).

I was always a fan of scooby doo which obvioulsy biased my opinion, but this is one game that i truly loved and almost everyone else hated! There are loads of other 'average games i love but this one is the one that i know most people did not like. Their loss i say ;) :D

Wizkid, Amiga/PC

Zool & Zool 2, Amiga/PC

Yoshi's Cookie (NES / SNES). I don't think it was/is that popular.

I don't know why I play it but I keep coming back for a few minutes playtime on it every now and again.

A game I like to play but people don't seem to talk about it, is Puzzle Du Pon on NeoGeo. It is a better version than Bust-A-Move I think.

Powerdrift on C64. Amazing speed, graphics and sound for an 8 bit machine; cannot compete with the absolutely stunning arcade game of course
firepower on amiga. played it for hours and hours, amazing fun
windjammer on neo geo, very simple but addictive game. I have never understood the sequence with the dog

I do not think these games were really popular, but maybe I am wrong.

I love Yoshi's Cookie. I only discovered it by accident but it's one of my favourite puzzle games.
