Trully sad, though perhaps it is an indicator that members of a community, we should take a bit more care of each other. We might not now who each other are but I am sure we would never wish any harm to each other.
Perhaps online communities should be looking at ways to better protect their members. I'm not sure how exactly as anonymity is also one of the great things about the whole set up, but if it were a crowd of mates down the pub you would want to look after them.
We are a crowd of mates but the ever evolving nature of the internet means that the dynamics and definition of friendship per se is evolving.
Food for thought certainly.
As for the God Squad, these people will always be there to finger point and try and be the moral judge and jury, whilst evangelical Christianity obviously holds a sway in the US, which is worrying, I find it difficult to see how someone would really have much trouble debunking these people. That's why they "preach" if you actually try to get them into a discussion it becomes a series of jingoistic soundbites. It is only upsetting that they should have a platform on such a tragic subject.*edit* Just read up on him on the wiki. Sounds like your standard moral crusader. I wonder what skeletons are in his closet? Let he who is without sin etc.
As for the boy? RIP lad.
Lets just hope he just saw a sign saying "Continue Yes/No", and carried on to the next level.
