Does anyone know of any free art or sounds that homebrew devs can use?

Anything would be nice, but tilesets, units, explosions would be great. My projects are suffering from a bad case of programmer art.

This community could provide free art. Maybe some of us pixel pushers could help out.

Suggest a new category to be added to the archives where people can upload open graphics. Icon-packs, sprites etc.
There must be people out there who can't program their way out of a paper bag, but are pretty good artists and want to contribute.

P.

of course. i've seen threads where people have offered to do artwork and i've offered myself. i love doing graphics work. it would be really great if there was a sort of central list (perhaps htis is possible on the wiki) where a programmer could post a list of what they would like contributed. then the designers would post to the wiki that they had done it, or call dibs, or whatever. the file archive could probably be used for hosting.

I like the idea, a development repository full of sprites, bgs, etc. Which can be easily accessable by anyone developing for the GP2X. This idea would be great for other things like audio and code sniplets.

I make a lot of use of two sources for artwork. The first is Reiner's Tilesets. You should check his conditions but the last time I read them he wanted an acknowledgement in the credits. The second source I use is Ari Feldman's SpriteLib GPL. For music, I have used: Kevin MaLeod's royalty-free music. He wants a credit in your game for his work.

The creative commons website might be a good place to look, or googling for "tileset creative commons" or whatever.

Thanks to the cc a lot of artists are starting to get into the whole "openness" concept.

Look here.

But indeed - a section in gp32x's archive with bitmaps/fonts/sounds could be very nice. It's sometimes very hard to start a project when there isn't available any data to experiment.

Yeah, my current project uses white 32x32 squares with numbers on to represent different frames of animation for sprites :D

Flexinoodle was offering his artistic talents a while back, but never showed any samples. Maybe PM him and see if he's still interested. Custom artwork would be much nicer than the usual PD stuff you see over and over again.
