Oh damn... I was using the PSU, and the power went out. Crap... It just hangs at the loading screen. Unbricking it will work with this, right?

:D

1. Re-formatted my Impact™ SD Card to FAT32 using a card reader
2. Installed the files on the card
3. Inserted the card in my '2X
4. Turned on the power
5. Saw the boot screen, then the "Firmware Upgrading" screen
6. Saw the green screen, which now said firmware 2.0 ... and waited ...
7 - 10. ... and waited, and waited ...
11. Shit my pants, thinking I bricked my '2X
12. Changed my shorts
13. Turned off the power for 10 seconds
14. Powered back on while holding start + select
15. Saw the "Now Patching" screen
16. Waited
17. Saw the "Now Formatting" screen
18. Waited
19. Voila! It seems to work ...
20. Re-booted and heard the gay little boot-up tune and danced the dance of joy :D

Now I get to re-do my award-winning Windows 95 Skin ;)

Think I've buggered mine... tried to do U-boot separately, and it's been sitting there for about 4 minutes saying it's Upgrading honest, now.

I'm going to try taking out the SD and copying over the rest of the files in case it's looking for an image file that doesn't exist... and cross fingers and hope like smeg.

EDIT: My word... I think it's actually not bricked it. Either they did a very very good job at programming this one to only write when it knew there was something there, or I was very very lucky. Or both, which is more likely. It's currently saying "Now formatting" after a power cycle in the middle of the "Firmware Upgrading" screen (why I thought it was bricked).

Still, can't wait for Art103 to get his hands on the new U-boot code... I want my boot menu back!

where you sueing art's uboot before?
if so, thats a normal bug, art's uboot dosnt reboot after a succesfull flash.

I was indeed - and I want to go back to it, once it's got the additions that have been made in 2.0.0 added; the boot menu is a very very useful thing, I reckon...

I suppose I should have renamed the new uboot to kernel.img, copied everything else over, and held start and select whilst booting from SD. If I understand things rightly, that would have worked. But then it might have overwritten u-boot when formatting, which would have been a bit of a bummer...

I did, but all I got was colored lines. Is that normal? If I don't hold start and select, it'll hang at the loading screen.

... I don't think it's hanging ... it's actually loading the next part of the upgrade ... let it ride man, let it ride!

(it took a few minutes for me, maybe 2-3)

Have you got all the files in root? If so, reformat the card as Fat32 all over again, and re-copy them, before trying again (turn on holding start and select). If you're seeing at least the updated Uboot screen, then certainly something flashed correctly, which ought to be enough to get everything else to, seeing as this one completely re-formats nand (so it presumably it shouldn't matter too much if there's a partial flash there or the current filesystem is a little narked or something).

Damn... I've tried this several times now, and I never get to the screen where it says "Firmware Upgrading." I reformatted my card and everything.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I know this is a lame question to ask, and you're probably expecting it, but have you performed a successful firmware upgrade before with the card you're using?

Yeah, but I used the Robster flasher instead of the one that GPH distrubuted. Maybe that's the problem... I need a special flasher to do the upgrade...
