Firmware 2.0.0 Next Week!

It's quite simple really. The reason you need to upgrade UBoot is because the new firmware uses yaffs and will also patch and reformat the NAND. The current UBoot can't do that.

Sounds like those new guys who GPH have hired are doing a pretty good job, should had used them in the first place.

I agree. I hope we see some nice improvements in the future.

Yup, but MagicEye made a requirement that GPH had to use Dignsys, so they didn't really have a choice. If MagicEye's were a little more flexible, think of where we could be now :)

I see there is no mention of the mplayer being fixed. Will they work properly as well? The only problem I have with the music player is random increases on volume when switching tracks, as well as the fact that it freezes randomly sometimes xD

There's are mumblings about mplayer, but I don't think anythings official yet. So don't give up the hope just yet, it *will* get better.

I'm guessing those random increases are just down to the fact that different albums have different volume levels... Which does, in fact, raise the point that the audio player on the 2X could do with ReplayGain support.

Well you guessed wrong for that part ^^
All my music is the same volume level or w/e. But the mplayer basically spurts out the volume and i have to use volume up/down to get it to go back to normal, or change to a different song. It has nothing to do with my music since its usually a different song.. And it can get wierd while we have a study block and the volume jacks up when the whole room is quiet.

and thx squidge for the little insight... Ill be upgrading my fw for sure though since it says length something.. which I assume is batery life, and fast boot time.

Im really happy this is coming. By the time this comes out, I would have recieved my brand spanking new GP2x (no thanks to the person who stole the last one, no more first eddition bragging rights for me, or a 2 gig card with all my scores, games, etc..., or the DaveC cap) and ill be able to load it back on :D

I have tried the beta of fw 2.0. This will be a revolution for GP2X. Super fast boot time 8-6 seconds, samba server, web server, extended usb host support, usb network and much more... Wait for 27th of May. B)

Is there anything else improved with this? I could care less about internet or USB on the GP2X, never use it. The fast boot is nice, anything else? Is it compatible with all of our old games and emus, does it fix the interlace and washed out colors? That is what is important.

Yeah.. the whole internet thing is kind of pointless o_O. Unless there is wifi which I hardly doubt.. Most people go outside with their gp2x I assume. Whats the point of playing it inside with a DC adaptor when you can just use your comp/tv to do stuff like that :)

Then again... I have the luxury of a pc.. Maybe some of you dont.. so pardon my rudeness.

i think that samba and the other protocols are good for devs, so that they can move files quicker & easier. i may start experimenting with some of this stuff so that i don't have to swap the sd card so much (working on a few icons).

in gp32spain forum k-teto have tried the samba on GP2x through the USB on the GP2x and is working great it can do some impouvement on developpement on GP2x with that you don't have to put on SD card your application juste run it from the PC :D
