My GP2X will not work on battery (other topic). I cannot send it back (other topic).
I will need to use the DC port because the battery connectors aren't functioning.

It looks like this one might be compatible:

Are there other products, maybe designed for other portable devices which might work with the DC port?

Also, what about a Mickey Mouse solution. (I will be speaking from my butt for the next few lines)

A bank of four AA's wired to a "voltage regulator" with a compatible DC tip. Is there such a magic bullet (which I named a "voltage regulator") which can be simply wired to the battery bank to allow it to power the GP2X via the dc port?

Just wondering. I mainly have the GP2x for plugged-in gaming, but I'd love it for plane trips etc.

Thanks,
mike

You can use the 4 batteries in a bank connected to a voltage regulator (from Maplin in the UK).
Using the right connector (which you can also get from Maplin, can't find the URL though) and wiring it up correctly you could use that.

Even using 3 batteries (1.2v*3 would give 3.6v) might work, can't remember the upper limit of the DC in on the side though.

Using D Cell rechargables you could get some serious mAh out of them, 10000mAh if Bacterias batteries could be used :)

Or, you can just ask EvilDragon for a repair of your GP2X and a replacement AC adapter (or just stop using the AC adapter)
I think my AC adapter is fine. It works great as a power source anyhow. It was suggested that the AC adapter somehow killed the battery port. which is unfortunate. Is that what you think as well? How do I get in touch with this EvilDragon? He's not really evil, is he? or a dragon?

Thanks-mb

The most immportant thing is to ensure that you connect the negative side of your batteries or ac adapter to the center of the plug on the gp2x. So on the barrel plug, the outside would be positive and the inside would be negative.

I'm sure 3.6 volts would be just fine. I have mine hooked to a 3.3 volt line of a atx power supply on my workbench. I cant see that three tenths of a volt would make a difference.

I just tested it and two batteries is just not enough juice to power the GP2X through the plug on the side

[edit]
It was suggested that the AC adapter somehow killed the battery port.

That could happen. The jack is designed to cut off the battery power when you plug in the adapter. So if you left an adapter pluged in, it could have damaged the jack. Same thing happened to a headphone jack on an old radio I had.

You may just need a new jack. Goto http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/KC-300397.pdf. Looks like that is what you need.

EvilDragon is the guy from the gp2x archive and he has his own gp2x shop:
