Evercade - buy your retro games on carts for this thing

They posted a link to a survey on their twitter today, but it requires an email address. Hmmm...

I'm still waiting for the second publisher that they promised us this month. Not that Piko Interactive isn't a good fit. I actually had Tinhead for Genesis as a kid. But, I wanna see if they can pull an even better name than Namco out of their hat.

Someone asked Evercade on Facebook about which publishers have turned them down so far, and they said only one has, whom they couldn't reveal, and that it was more of a 'not right now' than a 'no'. I guess they're being careful about who they ask early on. They said the only publisher they think is completely out of the question is "the one with the plumber". They sound pretty optimistic.

More Evercade news promised for Friday. Probably that second publisher they promised us this month. So why am I posting now? Because they're dropping weird hints, and I wanna know what it all means because I can't wait two days.

What do you guys make of it when Evercade posts the word Evercade in morse code, then later posts a picture of the cover art of Metallica's self-titled album, the one with the snake?

That reminds me of their survey. They were finalizing the design, and asked whether people preferred the color black or white for the handheld. I voted for white. I guess I got overruled. :(

Solid Snake / Metal Gear hint. Seems to fit both of those.

Piko Interactive Collection 1 announced. 20 games.

Looked it up, apparently this is a more recent company that specializes in acquiring old IPs, including previously unreleased games.

Piko Interactive is pretty well known. I even sell their games in my shop ;)

I must admit, I am curious. On their site they say
If you are in the business of producing video games, clothing, toys, retro consoles, or any other merchandise; and you are interested in Video Games and Characters of popular video game franchises from the 80s and 90s, Piko Interactive is the best partner you can find.
We own full rights of over 150 video game Ips from the 80s and 90s. Some of our titles sold millions of copies in their particular launched year. Our catalog includes IPs from popular developers like Ocean Software, Infogrames, Accolade, Imagitec, Spectrum Holobyte, Beam Software, Legend Entertainment, Core Design, Krisalis Software, Teque Software, and Gremlin Graphics. Our licensing agreements are available and affordable for both small business and large corporations
but I can't find anywhere which lists what IPs they have rights to

I've got a list, but it's internal, I guess.
So how are you suppose to licence something from them if you don't know what they've got? How bizarre!
Maybe their plan is for a developer to ask about a particular IP, so if they don't have it they can try an nab it before you realise who actually owns it?

He knows, we can't know, because said list is internal. Are any developers getting anything?
But that's what i don't get. Do you think they're just mailing developers saying "we own these, do you want to licence?" Or are they expecting developers to come to them... But why would a developer approach them when they don't know what licences they hold.

That's like me saying "I sell cheap handhelds", but you're not allowed to know which ones i stock!

So, no new games today, but they announced the console will be coming in both white and black versions, and that preorders start on the 6th.

Funstock already has their page up: https://funstock.co.uk/collections/evercade-bundles

My favorite is the all-in edition. The console, nine(!!!) cartridges with cases, and a case for the console, all for under $200 American. Tempting...

So it looks like this is a funstock production by all indications. That could be worse, I guess. Still, it remains to be seen what versions of a lot of these old games we're getting; if they're mainly NES ports then meh, but if anything's original then I could be tempted.

I'm still searching for more detailed specs, exact hardware, which emulator is beeing used? Because that's hit or miss when you make such an retro device. Even Nintendo wasn't able to do it perfectly with their retro consoles recently.

I wouldn't expect that to come out before someone gets on and takes the lid off at least. This isn't something you are meant to be able to run your own roms on, so from that approach, it doesn't really matter what it's running and on what exactly, just to the extent that it can run the carts you buy for it, and I guess if it can't you're meant to send it back for a refund.

That was my intention. If the SoC can't handle all these games, it doesn't make sense to even think about buying this kind of device. ;) Who whould do that "blind", anyways?
