Equalization Plugin / Music Playback?

Hi,

as I have mentioned before, I use the Pandora as my primary music player for home HiFi.

Does anyone know of software/plugin with the standard Pandora OS that can do precise per-channel  equalisation of the audio signal?

I have a room resonance at around 60-70hz that I need to cut out.

I also have driver damage on one speaker that requires me to boost the signal around 3khz, on one side only.

I see there are equalizers for LADSPA and Alsa, just wondering how to best go about this.

Thanks for the replies - I should have been more specific,

Deadbeef is my preferred player, and has a builtin EQ, but it is only 11-band and applies to both channels.

I need a parametric EQ that allows me to select exactly the problem frequencies and boost/cut them individually per stereo channel.

EDIT2: hmm no it looks to be a graphic eq, not parametric.

Jamin is good with that, but there's no pnd.

I made a Slackware package, but didn't test it.

It does? I will have to try audacious out with my music archive. EDIT: Works fine!

Ah the FIL plugin is this... http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/downloads/FIL-plugins-0.3.0.tar.bz2  and has a parametric eq for LADSPA.  Maybe you could give that a shot?

I don't see any screenshots, no idea how parametric settings are input. EDIT: "Open Audacious, go to File >> Preferences, and select "Plugins" from the menu on the left. Then select the "Effects" tab, find "LADSPA host" from the menu, select it, make sure it's checked, and click on "Preferences". Search through the menu that pops up for "Triple band parametric with shelves", select it, and click "Add". You can then configure the parametric equalizer from this menu."

it include a "few" ladspa plugins (but I probably could add some more if needed)

On top of the ladspa plugin preference windows, type this as path to the plugins : /mnt/utmp/audacious/lib/ladspa

For the rest I bet you're all set.

Repport on the results so I'ld know if it's repo worthy

I see "single band parametric" which is what I need to cancel out the 63Hz (approx) room mode (bass ringing). Cannot test tonight (house is sleeping) but will let you know in a few hours!

For anyone wanting to test their hifi systems frequency response, here http://www.ronelmm.com/tones/ is a set of test tones.

Play them all back with mplayer and if any one of them sounds "boomy", use the parametric eq ladspa plugin to cut that frequency.  Not yet sure what "width" to make the eq (how many octaves).

EDIT: Wow, it is absolutely crazy how the acoustic modes in the room vary from position to position. At 78hz I hear almost nothing sitting leaning back on the sofa, but moving my head forward 2 feet and I hear a loud droning. Several other frequencies have strong resonances and anti-resonances as well. What I thought would be an easy fix at one frequency turns out to be a complex zigzag of resonances.

EDIT4: The pandora cannot keep up with the triple band parametric eq. The single band eq seems to work. Testing now removing the node at 44hz...

I guess that was to expected - have you ever done that experiment with two speakers outputting the same sine wave and then walking around the room?We did that in school as an introduction before we started calculating the location of the minima and maxima and suchlike. At some places you didn't hear anything, in other places it was very loud.

speaker-test (part of the ALSA utilities) can output sine waves with a given frequency, might be more comfortable than using some audio file.

Cool! However the mp3 test tones have the advantage of being playable by audacious with its EQ plugins, so you can see the results of EQ corrections.

So ? Repo worthy ?
Certainly looks repo worthy to me! Unfortunately the triple-band parametric eq seems to use too much CPU (stuttering). Perhaps I should try overclocking.

EDIT: Overclocking doesnt help. Oh well
