When you guys port an emulator, like...say...visualboy advance :) , are you saying you emulate all the features like gamegenie and gameshark support?

Any help on this topic would be much appreciated! :D

P.S. Do guys have suggestions for other features to be made for some kind of emulator?

Port: yes (but may be removed for size/speed); derived/different project based on it: no (but may be added due to usefulness or demand).

yup, depends. usually extra stuff is added afterwards. getting it to run good is usually the priority.

Oftentimes the intial release of a ported emulator of a powerful system like GBA is slow and buggy, and only plays the ROMs... they just release it to prove it's being worked on. As newer versions come out, speed and sound increase, and the extra features that are in the original emulator are added, like GameGenie support.

Not always, but that's usually what happens.

I think porting VBA is a pointless exercise, as it'll always be slow and unplayable. For GBA, we need to write an emu from the ground up, and perhaps just pinch pieces of code from the likes of VBA. But yeah, features like gamegenie and gameshark support will normally be ported across with the emu.
