Just out of interest, what's the biggest donation you guys have given to a gp2x project?

Still a good request.. nice money for a homebrew app. Codos.

Me Im just a poor student, if that is an exuse for not donating. I bought the gp2x for the free emus etc. My hopes is that a warm "-Good work man!" is enough for now. Still, I have a lot of respect for ppl donating, keeping the scene alive etc. Keep it up all of u!

Actually, commercially, asking for a frontend like that would require thousands, heh. Hence the no takers :p

Not really. Using existing emulators it wouldn't be much at all.

Funny thing, I was thinking of possibly making one of these earlier today as a first project for the GP2X.

Then I thought about it longer and figured GMenu2X works good enough. :p

I just offered $100 to start a bounty on a universal frontend that can launch games from different emulators:

Wow, that's a serious amount of money to offer for a frontend.

Maybe, but no takers so far......

Isn't this what gmenu does? I started writing my own "mamewah" type emulator (which had a tab for each emulator and would list games and as you scroll through the list it would show screenshots, etc.), but found out that gmenu does all that already.

My only complaint is that it is SOOOO Slow to load a particular emulator. I open up SNES which I have several hundred roms listed and it takes 30+ seconds before it pops up.

my own version wasn't nearly as slow, so I'm not sure why the delay (although mine was still so buggy when I put it aside, it wasn't a viable alternative)

No, what he's asking for is to have one massive window with a list of all ROMs.

For instance, a single games menu with the following listed:

Metal Slug (MAME or Neo Geo)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)
Super Mario Land 3 (Nintendo)
Super Mario World (SNES)

Yes! It would either look like this:

Game___________Platform_________ Emu

2020 Baseball_____NeoGeo__________GnGeo2X
Dig Dug__________Mame___________GPMame
Exerion___________Mame___________GPMame
Ghost Pilot________NeoGeo__________GnGeo2X
Hellfire___________Genesis__________Picodrive
Hellfire___________Mame___________GPMame
Neo Drift_________NeoGeo__________GnGeo2X
Rampage_________Mame___________GPMame
Spy Hunter_______Mame____________GPMame
Super Mario World__SNES____________PocketSNES
Truxton__________Genesis__________Picodrive
Truxton__________Mame____________GPMame
Twin Cobra_______Mame____________GPMame
Twin Cobra_______Genesis__________Picodrive
Vindicators_______Mame____________GPMame
Zero Wing________Mame____________GPMame

with an option to look like this:

Game___________Platform_________ Emu

Hellfire___________Genesis__________Picodrive
Truxton__________Genesis__________Picodrive
Twin Cobra_______Genesis__________Picodrive
Dig Dug__________Mame____________GPMame
Exerion___________Mame___________GPMame
Hellfire___________Mame____________GPMame

Thing is, it would seem to be reasonably similar to what selector does already, except it doesn't do it autmatically.

Would be very cool indeed if Gmenu2x could read selector config files though and automatically create a "run games" option for an emu. E.g. if you press B, the program runs. If you Hold for a second, it brings up a list of the games that selector *would* have picked up based on the settings provided by the emu author.

I wonder if it'll ever happen...

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you know of a way to create a list of all games that match rom names from different rom directories, and when you select a particular game name it launches the matching rom within its emulator?
