Hi.
Like every year in Germany, the 31. December is the day, where the english comedy sketch
"Dinner for one" is shown on many TV channels here.
And this since 1972 EVERY New Year's Eve. "The same procedure as every year" ;)
If you have no clue, what I'm talking about, take a look at the Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner_for_One

You can watch the Original 18 Minute b/w Version (with german narrator) here:

or the youtube alternative:

I really want to know if it's true, that (for example) no british people know this superb comedy sketch while every Kid in Germany do.

P.S.: Where's my poll? Hmm....gone. :(

I have never even heard of it before. How crazy. So it is a tradition on the continent and the wiki says it has never even been broadcast here in the UK. I wonder if any old folk in the UK remember it from the theatre ? Thank you for posting about it. Never heard of Freddie Frinton or May Warden either. Most interesting that it should have a continental following and is always shown with no dubbing or subtitles.

No prob. ^^
Sadly, people who don't understand german never can enjoy the superb Dinner parody "Dinner für Brot" with our cult-puppet "Bernd das Brot" (Bernd the bread) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernd_das_Brot )

The Swedes know it too. :D
Skòl!

...SAME PROCEDURE AS EVERY YEAR!

Maybe in some Years, this great Sketch will be popular in Britain to.
In Germany we have nearly a dozend of reruns at many TV programs in just one day. :)

Happy New Year, Miss Sophie!

I didn't know of it. But I've just watched it.

Like fluffy sez. A simple idea done well.

It's fairly typical of most British comedy that translates well to overseas markets
Not much dialogue, physical and stereotypically English.

It's so funny you guys never heard of it and it's tradition in Germany to show this sketch on new year's already.

I first saw this about ten years ago, and here in Australia, SBS plays it every new years eve, and this year, 'same procedure as every year', was no exception.

Last year I recorded it onto DVD.

This is truly one of the most classic comedies of all time. Anyone who hasn't seen it, please do indulge in those links earlier in the thread.

Amazing to hear that most people in the UK don't know about it and it has never been played there.
