Hi everyone. This is my first post as I just recieved my GP2X today. It came with firmware version 1.2.1 installed. I'm very happy with it except that when I plug the headphones in, the right side is muted. However, when I turn the volume all the way up, I do get sound from the right side, but it is very crackly and distorted. I did search through these forums and saw the posts about speakers not turning off with the headphones in and similar posts, and I did try different headphones and having the plug a little bit retracted and pushing in a little force. Seems that the headphone jack is a real issue with this product but I didn't see a problem exactly like mine. I called the importer I bought it from today and they have emailed me a paid shipping label to send it back for a replacement, but I just wanted to check if anyone had any ideas, because I'd rather not send it back. Maybe I need to do the solder thing? I just hate to wait for the turnaround now that I'm just starting to have fun with it!!! Oh well, no Fedex on the weekend anyway, so I'll play with it till Monday I guess! ;)
Thanks in advance,
Craig

If you are absolutely positive that it is fully clicked in then I would say it has a problem. I just got mine about a week ago and THOUGHT that the headphones were plugged in all the way and I got symptoms like yours and a mono sound as well. I pushed just a little bit harder and it clicked all the way in and worked perfectly. Now my plug works smoothly and easily, it was just the initial push that seems to have been harder.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'm almost certain that the headphone plug is fully inserted. I just tried to press a little harder to the point I was worried I was going to break the thing but I didn't get anywhere. I read on the wiki that some models of headphones might not work due to that fact that the GP2X jack is slightly recessed. I think I have one more pair of headphones at home, I'll try them when I get home.

i have the same problem, easy to fix though. just turn the headphones in the jack and both L & R channels will work :D

I tried about 10 diffrerent headphones and tried turning the headphone plug in the jack, but still doesn't improve. I think I just have a dud. I'll be sending it back Monday morning. :-(

Hi. I sent it back today. I'll let you know how the new one is, that way there could will be a documented "defect" case (or not!)

Hi again. I just recieved my replacement GP2X. The headphone jack works great! Must have been a defect in the last one, just thought I'd let everyone know. :D
