Cpu / Lcd-tweaker V1.3 Released

Another improvement. I have now the ability to IMPROVE watching movies on my gp2x...

The gamma control brings us one step closer to a better screen.

BUT BUT let´s face it I keep trying different settings the SCANLINES never completely disappear.

Watching a full episode or movie still puts strain on your eyes. I keep noticing myself keeping the unit absolutely still to avoid the scanlines.
Don´t get me wrong this is a great utility and using the movie player has become more and more fun but why didn´t GPH give us a screen that gives you comfort while using the movie player.
Watching avi´s that do not need re-encoding is one of the strong points of our gp2x but ....
I know this subject has been brought up over and over but why this INTERLACED screen ???

Yes, it is wierd. The orignal GP2x i had, with orignal firmware, did not have this problem. Suggesting that it is a software issue that can be fixed.

Yep. Damn 1.2 firmware I think ...

The reason for the interlaced screen is because the MMSP2 chip is designed for embedded Linux DVD players. It's very visible due to poor programming, though.

Does anyone know where you can get this original firmware... (Is it really 1.2) and was the movie player in this version o.k. (no sync probs...)

I don't think it works ...

Well, it works as a stand-alone program; I can run it, see the screen getting darker as I adjust the gamma, and it even saves the settings on exit. (I can see the main menu darker and seems crisp, nice blacks, no longer washed out)

YET, when I try to then run an EMU (I used GNUboy to test), I see no diffference. More bafling still, after I exited from GNUboy, the screen went back to normal, default settings.

Here's two sample scripts I was testing with (Note: I first ran cpu_speed alone, then the GNUboy emu (without a script), then I tried it using these scripts):

Code:
#!/bin/sh

/mnt/sd/cpu_speed 1 2 200 10
cd /mnt/sd/GNUboy/
./gnuboy2x.gpe
sync

cd /usr/gp2x/
exec /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu

And:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

/mnt/sd/cpu_speed 1 2 200 0.02
cd /mnt/sd/GNUboy/
./gnuboy2x.gpe
sync

cd /usr/gp2x/
exec /usr/gp2x/gp2xmenu

I'm likely doing something stupid :p , but I don't know what. The game launches just fine using both these scripts, but there is no change in the gamma.

Edit: I'm on 1.2.0 FW

try another app, maybe gnuboy changes the gamma by itself

Well shut my mouth!

SO GNUboy does reset the gamma!!! Thanks Vimcas!

AND thanks to god_at_hell & Theoddbot for a great app :D

How good is it?

[translation]Does it live to DaveC's standards?[/translation]

=p

If it is the same gamma adjuster that I tried earlier it doesn't effect black level. It just adjusts the intensity of the graphics themselves. Color 0 is still too bright and that can only be fixed by adjusting the backlight itself.
