Dear Readers,

I didn't find a "specific" thread about this, but if there is one, I appologize. When I think of the all the things that I'm going to use the Pandora for, one of the most prodominent ideas is for simple comunication. From what I have heard, it is possible for an IM to be ported to the Pandora. But my questions are, is anyone planning to port one, if any which ones and are any planned for the release(I know the apps are up in the air, but I heard that Firefox 3 was confirmed [almost]). Also, what about internet phone and web cam comunication apps. Is anyone planning to port one or are any even possible to port? If anyone knows, just tell me. Thanks for listening.

You soon will be mine :pandora1:

I'm willing to bet pidgin is essentially already ported (a lot of desktop linux open source software is). Skype is very unlikely, as it's closed source.

I'd more like kopete to be honest....
but i dont think that will be a problem either....
if something like ubuntu will be possible, there wont be a problem installing kopete - kde-apps shouldnt run that noticably crappier then gnomeapps on ubuntu

While I love kde, kopete comes with kdelibs as a dependency. If you use several kde apps, it's a blessing; if you use only one it's a curse. Same with gnome apps.

However, pidgin is just a GTK app and it has no gnome dependencies.

Afaik kde is a lot slower, or at least feels a lot more sluggish, or at least that is my impression.

Skype runs on Nokias Internet Tablets, perhaps the binary wouldn't be too difficult to get working on the Pandora.

I'd rather stick with SIP, personally.

Umm .. will have to see if the Skype on tablets is using some of the Nokia proprietary libs.
"ldd" on the device seems broken so I dont have a way of checking right now.
Any suggestions about finding dependencies? I have access to N800 right now and can ssh into it as root.

Are you able to run "lsof -c skype" and post the output? That might help.

That's probably an incomplete list, but it gets most of it I would think. (For instance, does it load other fonts or libraries during a call?)

Now, the question is, can we use that information and those libraries to construct an unofficial Skype ARM build?

Dang, I can't wait for the Pandora. :p
