Closed Source Ports

If I may make a suggestion:

Contact the guys from 2dboy.com !

They are the creators of World Of Goo which is already a really cool crossplatform game, they might be interested in doing a port of this or other games they are working on.

^ sorry, I can't see every suggestion in this maze of silly replies. I already tried searching for World Of Goo which didn't give any results.

Hi,

What about playing Osmos on the Pandora ?
CODE

It's a really nice game, and it has won a prize at the last IGF :)

So I sent the author an email some days ago:

Hi,

I've just tried the Windows alpha demo of Osmos (under Wine 1.0.1 / Ubuntu 8.10 64 bits) and I like it a lot !

I'm glad to see you won a prize at the last IGF too :)

On a side note, I think your game would be great on the upcoming Pandora handheld console :)

I hope you'll consider a port of Osmos to this nice platform :)

Sincerely,

Sam
And here is the answer:
QUOTE

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for the feedback!
Pandora looks great. I'll keep it in mind. I'd love to get my hands on one for starters. :)

Cheers,
Eddy

Sounds good to me :)
Bye, Magic Sam

Haha how ironic! I actually might be interning for one of the guys behind Osmos this summer. (As he does computer graphics and video game design, I was thinking that I might show him my Pandora and see what he thinks. Oh the irony.)

Some days ago I sent a new mail to Eddy about this thread and how the community reacts to a possible port of Osmos to the Pandora:
QUOTE

Hi,

Thanks for replying my mail and showing some interest in the Pandora :)

I have posted my e-mail and your reply on gp32x.de, the main
GP32/GP2X/WIZ/PANDORA Community site, on a thread about possible closed
source ports:

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showt...3659&st=210

Some people seem to be willing to pay for your game, good news isn't
it ?

Bye and thanks again for this great game !

Cheers,

Sam

And here is the reply I received this morning :)
QUOTE

Hi Sam,

(Sorry about the slow reply.)

Thanks for letting me know about the post and the feedback! Very interesting indeed. :)

I've also passed the suggestion and thread onto one of my collaborators (who ironically enough was just referred to in the thread... bizarre...) He'll probably go out and buy one instantly (he's like that) and want to jump in.

Cheers,
Eddy

It sounds really good to me :) Please let us know what Eddy thinks about the Pandora when he sees it :) I hope all this will result in a port of Osmos to the Pandora ! A partnership with IGF could be a good idea too (ex: IGF winners will see their games commercially released on the Pandora...). I also think the Open Pandora Team should find a reliable person (Chip ?) to deal directly with all these game authors and indy studios, and talk about serious contracts and money in a more professional way than we do :)

Bye, Magic Sam

I'm working for one of the other guys, not the main one (the one you emailed). I'll probably show him the Pandora at some point. :D

(I wonder if he's the one that was mentioned in the email about just being mentioned in the thread... Funny how quickly word gets around, eh?)

Anyone interested in seeing a Christmas Game on the Pandora. If so I got one I like to see on there. It's called "Santa Clause in Trouble". It a 3D Platformer freeware where you have to pick up the gifts and stay away from the baddies. The game has 10 stages. Screenshots:

Only problems I see with the game is it's DirectX based. And that this game was a collaboration between Joymania development and CDV software. So when asking about the game. We would have to ask both Joymania and CDV.

Here's Joymania's site (the site is in german): http://www.joymania.de
and here is CDV's site: http://www.cdv.de
And here is CDV's US site: http://www.cdvusa.com

I know there are Plenty of open source breakout games.

But what about the original DX-Ball. It's still fun after all these years. And is relatively light weight.

The guy has also created a new site for his small company. His recent game has been made for the iPhone. He also made a new DX-Ball game. All of his new games seem like they would be awesome for the Pandora Here's the site: CODE

If you guys are interested in DX-Ball (or any other of his games). I'll send him a email.

What about Every Extend?

screen1.jpg

Although there's no source code available, there's a Nintendo DS versión, named Every ExteNDS, and the web page says it's a "port" of Every Extend from OMEGA.

Every ExteNDS:

http://www.ds-scene.net/?s=viewtopic&nid=5918

Original Every Extend:
http://nagoya.cool.ne.jp/o_mega/product/e2.html
http://nagoya.cool.ne.jp/o_mega/

And, in fact, so it seems, graphically and playabilly. :D

Perhaps someone interested in writing a Pandora port of Every Extend can try to contact OMEGA.

It would be a really incredible addition to the Pandora games catalog. :)

I think there was an Every Extend clone on the GP2X as well? Every Extend has become a commercial brand, so an official version might not be possible and a clone using the same name not so much of a good idea. However, I love the game a lot so I'd like to see a clone on the Pandora, perhaps with little changes in gameplay and of course completely redone presentation.

By the way, maybe we should wikify this thread as was done with the port request thread? Unfortunately I'm way to busy/lazy to do it myself at the moment but if anyone wants to start a wiki page, I think that would be a great idea. :)

Anyone played Plants vs Zombies? It's a 2D game where you plant various flowers that shoots on zombies attacking your house. It's very addictive, and my friends agree. I totally love the graphics myself. Try the demo: http://www.popcap.com/games/pvz
The only problem with porting the game over will be PopCap's "PopCap Games Framework". Since it still have been been ported to Linux yet.

I wouldn't think we'd be seeing any Popcap games on Pandora, considering they're already making squillions through other channels (including XBLA). This Tuxcap thing is interesting though.

Can anyone tell us more about this? I've found plenty of info on what it is, but nothing on what has been done with it.
