checking back in

should arrive about a month after ordering.

diablo1, starcraft 1, hurrican, beta block quest, Dino Defense

should get about 40+ hours of use with new kernel, and couple more days with low power mode before a charge is required

So still no suspend to ram?

Man that feature needs to get implemented. This would make the Pandora ten times better.

Also hows the OS updates? Any major improvements?

Multi tasking Mini menu?

Wow starcraft and diablo 1???? I'm getting on the case! Also if any devs are in here if I make a game in C++ using the allegro library will it work on OP?

Also any chance Rpg maker games work on it yet?

Not sure what the benefit would be, the low power mode now allows you do be on for days barely draining the battery..

Well ED says suspend to ram works.. but have to say the low power mode is fantastic.

I'd say there was some very good progress in SuperZaxxon.. the Power saving features is just one example..

Multi tasking Mini menu?
I've always thought of mini-menu as a quick way to launch games without wasting resources on a full GUI.. XFCE is better geared for multi-tasking..

It's done through Qemu, which emulates a pentium class PC.. it's a bit of work to get setup.. as you need to actually install a working copy of Windows 95 or 98 and install the game that way. It may take a bit of work to get the speed optimal..

No....Way!??!!

Last time I asked it you guys said it would take a hell of a long time to implement so I wasn't expecting to hear you'd done it already!?

So you can pretty much suspend to ram then hit power on and back on in 1 second? Boom, headshot.

That's real cool to hear.

yes, you can go into low power mode, wait 200 hours as ED said, flip your switch, and be back to where you were 200 hours ago without charging your battery in between

Zelda Classic uses the allegro library, so the allegro library has been ported to Pandora.

Well, after 200 hours you'd flip it on to find your battery just about drained, but yeah. :p

Basically you can use your Pandora until it reaches critical warning at 5%, suspend to RAM, and have about 8-10 hours to find a wall socket or USB to plug into.

The current "low power mode" IS suspend to RAM. :p

I never even go into low power mode, shutting the lid is good enough for me. The power draw with nothing running and the lid closed is 25 mA, or about 160 hours.

Does that mean I could run almost anything that runs on windows 95? Providing the pandora had the resources for it? Ie. Tibia (www.tibia.com)?

At the moment, allegro4.4 runs, 5 is not working eight now. Somebody still needs to port it.

Theoretically. Keep in mind the speed difference though: by estimate it is somewhere around a Pentium 90 I think someone said, and doesn't have a lot of RAM available to it. It doesn't hurt to try though.

Well, more like a Pentium60, as Starcraft doesn't quite run fullspeed with sound, but almost... Without sound it is mostly fullspeed ;)

Edit: also the touchscreen isn't useable in qemu in win95 and below. But you can use win98, which is a bit slower or an external mouse or the nubs :)

That should be good enough! Tibia doesn't have sound and the graphics are nothing special. Would I be able to multitask, ie, take notes while qemu runs in the back ground then swap over every now and then? Touch screen would be more of a luxury than anything. If it can play starcraft or diablo, i'm almost positive it would run Tibia. This is epic news for me, and will make my pandora experience 100x better xD

Is it better to have Qemu and Windows on a seperate SD card?

You run images in qemu, so if you want large images, it will be maybe better to run it of an ext2 or 3 formatted card.

I never tried tibia, but if it runs on a 486/66 Pentium/60, a resolution of 640x480 or less and win95 there might be a chance that it runs well.

You can switch qemu into windowed mode and multitask, but noone reported, that he got networking set up properly with it afaik. But that should be a matter of configuration... But not sure if it will work. Someone has to try.

I never bothered with it.

Edit: Of course qemu doesn't have proper 3d support.

I think they just made that up, it definitely doesn't need 500mhz. Also in the graphics options it says you can swap between DirectX5, DirectX9 and OpenGL. I have mine on DirectX9 when on my desktop though. There is also a graphics resolution of 640 x 480 in the menu, which is a good sign :D

I have a feel they just threw 500 in there because it's such a basic game, and they assume no one has a processor lower than 500mhz, I could definitely play it on my old 166 Pentium, so i'm positive it would run on 90mhz or 60 if it were the case. I'm almost positive that if diablo runs, tibia will, no question.

Does the DirectX make it any better? the only problem would be the wifi and net connection if windows 98 supports it. Would XP run with no services?
