First of all, let me be very specific about the symptoms I'm seeing:
When running XFCE and clicking on the network-manager applet I get a list that has two entries:
Code:
No network devices available
VPN Connections

When I run ifconfig -a I get:
Code:
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:600 (600.0 B) TX bytes:600 (600.0 B)

When I run iwconfig I get:
Code:
lo no wireless extensions.

dmesg says:
Code:

Firmware releases I've tried:
-stock firmware
-hotfix 2
-the latest 2010-07-02 test

Ways I've tried to fix it and/or troubleshoot it:
-Turned off usb networking at boot
-Made sure wifi was enabled in startup
-Hit Toggle wifi a couple times

I'm open to troubleshooting tips, but I'm running out of ideas and I'm starting to think this might be a hardware problem since it is one of the earlier pandoras (158).

Here is the change in dmesg on my system after enabling wifi. It was a fresh boot without wifi active. Then I activated wifi using the normal script with sudo and had it connect automatically to my WPA2 encrypted network using network manager. Here is what things do look like:

Just wondering if people aren't responding because they aren't seeing this problem or because they're looking for the answer as well. If I don't get any responses I'll just assume this is a hardware defect and follow-up with the pandora guys to get it repaired/replaced.

Did you try what Ivan said?

Yes. a couple times. That script he's referring to is the same one that gets run from the 'toggle WiFi' menu item. I tried running it from the terminal anyways, just for fun and got the same dmesg output as before. I appreciate the thought, though at this point I'm starting to think that if WiFi was going to work on my Pandora I probably would have managed to start it accidentally at some point. :)

I don't have any problem to connect to Wifi with my pandora.
There are some router that cause problem to some. (mali where are you to point out the right link ???? :p )
But wait for a reply here from someone of the team (ED, MWeston...) before sending back your pandora.

For the troubleshooting tips, this is a list of things I would think usefull (to help you) :
- output of the first op_wifi.sh run after a fresh boot.
- output of any subsequent op_wifi.sh run
- output of lsmod after op_wifi is run
as it seems that the drivers isn't loaded (else iwconfig would have reported it)

That's the thing. The driver *is* loaded (lsmod lists wl1251_sdio) but ifconfig -a and iwconfig don't list the wlan0 interface. I appreciate the reply, but I'm more and more (read: 100%) sure this isn't something that can be fixed without cracking open the case.

Did you ever get this fixed? I've been having a very similar problem and I just found your thread. See my fruitless attempts to identify the issue in another thread here.
