Man, I've been reading about this portable console all night since I heard a new revision was out.

I have a few questions, will it play vertically oriented games and have proper controls when holding the system rotated/vertically?

Do I have to manually set the overclock settings for every game I want to play or can I just overclock it once initially and be set?

Now for the big question which may make or break the sale for me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

I was wondering if it will run the existing MAME roms of Cave shooters? Games like DonPachi, DoDonPachi, Esprade, Dangun Feveron, and Guwange?

Many thanks in advance, I always wanted a GP32 but just never got around to it. It seems like I'm about due for a nice new GamePark 2X.

Can anyone take the time to test out a few of Cave's games on MAMEgp for me? I'd really appreciate the info. Many thanks in advance guys! :)

- Yes, you have proper controls in vertically oriented games. The controls are nice, because you are able to use the sound volume controls as fire buttons (without sound volume changes of course xD).

- You can select a default overclocking option as well as other default options. Also you can save specific options for each of the games.

- It does not run the Cave shooters. It supports 1200 games aprox. (MAME 0.34 - MAME 0.35). To know exactly the supported games, download the emulator an see the gamelist.txt file. It support almost all classic games, CPS1, NeoGeo, etc.

Wow, it seems the M.A.M.E. GP God himself came to the rescue! ;)

Thank you for the info, and all the hard work you've put into this hobby.

I read in your interview with Hooka that DoDonPachi was in your list of favorite games, is there any chance that this may run on GP2X in the future or is it not possible due to hardware limitations? Many thanks again, my friend.

well, i've been playing DonPatchi and DoDonPatchi on my Athlon64 3000+ system using the latest version of MAME and even then during the more intense sections it slows down due to the sheer amount of onscreen action.

i'd suggest these games are way too heavy for the GP2X to handle, hence the reason they've not been included.

Greetings,
Nah, that's not your computer's fault. I own pretty much all the original PCBs and the slowdown is the same on the real thing as it is on an old or new PC from my experience. I'd think that if the GP2X could run the newer Neo-Geo games that it would have a chance at 1st generation Cave hardware.

I'm not a programmer, nor do I have any emulation experience besides simply playing the games though! :D
