hi!

i dont know if i should buy a gp32. i am from germany and the gp32 is not very popular here (haha). i thought of buing a gameboy advance sp but then i heard from the gp32. it sounds so good. emulation ... smcs... avis... mp3s... big display... wow.

but then i read that most of the emus dont work very well. snes emus are slow and i read that even gb emus are slow. is that true??
there are not many official games and most of them in korean only... so emus are the only chance to play games on a gp32. but when the emus are not working good? buy it or buy it not?

is it fun to watch avis with the gp32? good quallity? fps?

there are MANY good games for the GBA sp ... so please tell me why i should buy a gp32 instead. what is working good with it??????

pleeeease!!!

Are you more of a hacker than a lame user??

If so the gp32 is for you, you get it to do plenty of things without any add ons, but if you just want to follow the crowd and miss out on loads of freebies, or even games that will use the full potential of the gamepark, then get Lameboy instead.

i am a vb programmer.
and my job is also in the computer industrie.
so i think i am more a hacker than a normal user.

i m only asking this questions because i dont want to be disappointed after i bought it... its not cheap and i have to pay high shipping costs.

The PC Engine EMU runs really well.
Doom and Wolf3d run perfectly (but no save option, no sound on Doom).
ZX Spectrum EMU is great.
C64 EMU is great and getting better :)

It plays MP3s, DIVX files.... what more do you want?!

SMW: it should play fast without sound on 1 emulator, and slow with sound on another.

Can you wait till the fast emulator gets sound or the slow one gets faster????

Yo jlebrech!

One would expect the people who are on this board to be somewhat biased toward GP32 as it's a great system that warrants attention, however when I first posted asking to know more about it to help access the situation I received several objective responsible replies and was very thankful!
My point is you seem to be a little superior in your response. Someone is asking WHY they should buy a GP32, there are lame "hackers" to! Trying to convince someone which platform they should consider doesn't invite you to put them in a specific catagory, present your opinion/case with a level head and you'd be more likely to convince someone. Do you really think someone is gonna be like "OH! if I don't get GP32 according to jlebrech I'm just a lame user, so I'll get GP32 so I can be cool like him!". Grow up! and be a better representative of GP32 fans. I myself love to tinker, hack, and emulate just about evey console and some computer platforms but my $$$$ is also limited and though I'd love a GP32 a Gameboy SP with linker kit is a very good deal, it may not be as powerful as GBA but since a lot of people want to use it for retro gaming anyway what's the difference? In the end for many it's about which system plays and offers the most games and value. Anyway, that's my rant, remember everyone has different reasons and idea's about which handheld platform is for them, it's not our bussiness to label anyone as lame because they are considering "lameboy" at least these people are ATTEMPTING to consider other platforms!

Thank You! :)

If you want things easy, then just get a gameboy.

But if you want to get to know your console its a good idea to look into it?

If you like playing games a lot then you could get a gameboy (for games like metroid), but for pc quality games, you could try GP32.

Sorry about starting a Flame, it wasnt my intentionm and it never is anyone intention.

Sorry about that. B)

:) Thank you, much appreciated, THAT is the kind of response I would expect on this board..................................

yes? :p

ok i know , it's not perfectly smooth yet, and there's 2 buttons missing,

but it WILL be playable someday, for free
on GBA you have to pay it again to play it , so i'd say gba is more expensive than gp32 (i have 60 pcengine games on it, and .... one on GBA! :D)

but gba is more "easy" , you buy a game, you play it , that's all , no divx to recompress, no emulators to wait (and wait and wait :D) , no demos,

that's 2 completly different systems! so it's up to only you ;)

What are you talking about? The gp32 is a hell of a lot more powerful than the GBA. Thats why a GBA emulator is in development for GP32.

this same question is being asked a lot and getting redundant but.. i guess that's the nature of a board like this, the scene is tiny and it invties it. so at least it's sincere and can only help to broaden the userbase, if nothing else! (and possible developers, which is even better!)

Anyway. I am a big supporter of the GBA. it's a great system, great games, new version is finally coming out so it's lit and you can actualy SEE it. flashkit is VEYR easy to use and there's somegreat emulators/etc available for it, and the cost for all of that isn't particularly prohibitive. there will be LOTS of support for GBA over the next several years, assuredly, and you are guaranteed a good time if you pick one up.

GP32 is for a more discriminating taste, I myself want it purely for PC-Engine/SMS emulation, anything else is a bonus. It's got lots of 'hack' potential and all the flash business is pretty much built in (though at this point the GBA is practically right there with it) - GP32 seems insidiously more cumborsoe to get started + setup (well--- like an older PC) but that's an exaggeration for SURE, but compared to getting your GBA flash business rolling it's certainly true. GP32 has much more potential than GBA but tiny market, tiny fanbase, tiny developer/homebrew interest (again, all things being relative).

In the end - if you are serious about buying one or the other - do your homework. Look around the net (as you obviously have been doing, to the point that you found this forum!) and see what you can get, pros and cons of either system. For most folks, again, I'd recommend GBA but for the 'specialist' or serious retrogamer (and gearhead!) then you can not go wrong with GP32!

NOTE: everyone's always touting GP32's 'potential' - dont' lay out the cash for the system on this basis alone. SNES, GBA, megadrive emulation - etc etc - they all sound very promising and certainly are enticing (and some have shown, to a degree!) But history has proven that just because it's in progress don't mean it will DEFINITELY be a fact, maybe not for awhile if ever - don't hinge your final decision based on this. Get your system for what it CAN do.. now!

I have to agree with kram, that was a ridiculous comment >.>;;;;
Anywho, I think you should go with the GP32. Although most of the stuff about the GBA is rumors right now, it's very likely that there will be a GBA emu soon. That will basically make the GBA obsolete... OK, so maybe I am forgetting some things, but I can't think of any at the moment...
Since I am more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, lagging is BEYOND usual to me, so I really don't mind having some slow games. I play street fighter turbo (no pun intended ;) ) all the time, and although it IS a little slow, I still think it's a lotta fun ^.^
So take the GBA if you want immediate gaming pleasure, or take the GP32 if you want more pleasure that will take more time.... hum... that sounded kinda wrong >.>;;;

Whoa! my bad! I know the GP32 is much more powerful and all about the GBA emulator, I immediately checked, sorry just a typo, I actually meant "I know the GP32 is more powerful than GBA...." I was just a little preoccupied with my response, I was just trying to make a point that for many it's not about which is more powerful but about available games etc. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I'm well aware GP32 kicks butt as far as power!

And would like to add the comments from kram was very good, and I agree 100% with ralp99, investigate each systems capabilities/possibilities etc. and draw your own conclusion from the all the info and opinions provided as only you can make the right decision for you. If I didn't have to worry about $$$$ you could be damn sure I'd get both systems!
:D

after my friend showed me the gbax.com review my jaw dropped, he bought one but needs to sell it so he selling it to me:) so a few more weeks and gp32 will be mine!

thats a heavy decision ... i guess i have to think about it a few more days... mh mhmhmhmhmh

To aid you in your choice, be sure to check out the emulators on the right sidebar of GP32Xtreme. :p

Also consider this:

-The SMC reader on the GBA DOES NOT allow you to copy whatever you want onto your SMCs (only what Nintendo lets you in special booths), and it has an inferior compression rate as far as DivX movies go.

-A frontlit (eg. GBASP) GP32 is forthcoming.

-the high resolution of the GP32's screen is much more suitable to emulation, and only on a GP32 can you play Monkey Island. :)

-GP32's freeware

In the GBA(SP)'s favour, though, it IS less of a pinch on the wallet, and the you can use that Flashlinker that Lik-sang used to sell (if you can still find it being sold somewhere) to the same extent that you could use a GBA emulator on the GP32 should one be finished (i.e. free games). Whether your morality permits this is another matter.
Also, the GBASP is smaller and its screen is protected. Not that there aren't nice carrying cases (alright, there's just one) for the GP32 that protect its screen...

I'm a big emu fan but if I can I always use the real thing. So I don't understand why most GP32 users are GBA haters. I've a GBA + Linker + GB Bridge and I won't change it for nothing because I can play all GBA + GB + GBC games with it.

I'll also buy a GP32 because I think is a great system but never for playing GBA/GBC roms.

"GBA Haters"?? I don't believe most of the GP32 fans are GBA haters. Thats kind of a strong label. I think some of the GP32 fans prefer the GP32 over the GBA for some obvious reasons. I have a GBA, its ok. BUT I still prefer my GP32 3 to 1 over the GBA. I think its because I enjoy something new and original, and not ordinary. In today's high tech graphically flashy gaming industry...games seem to be more about how far they can push polygons rather than how exciting they can make a game. To me, (Only my opinion) I would take innovation over enhancing exsisting games any day. Hey, I love the retro games, but remaking some of them over and over..to be quite honest is a little bland. But thats me. I just like something different. but I am not a GBA hater... hehehe
