this system uses a normal cd-r cd, where you have the roms in .v64 format extension, and yes, you can play all of this games, using a flash rom memory.
A friend of mine has one. Although becoming obselete with emu's becoming more sophisticated, its a really cool piece of hardware. If you get one you will need a DX256 or DX2 to store game saves.
CDs are faster at loading than the parallel port. (few seconds per rom compared to a few minutes).
It also plays VCDs - (for dodgy Cantonese subtitled movies  )
Ahh good old bunk.
Had to go and dust mine off.
If you get one make sure it has had a memory upgrade, or you will not be able to play the bigger games.
You will need the virtual save cards software which you have to load up for each game as it simulates the game save on the host cart and also a dx1 for games like Zelda or they simply will not save. The ds256 is a 2 dialled game save system. It has two red dials and you just dial up the right slot for your various game saves (alpha numeric)
All in all though a great piece of kit.
The downside is(with all things like this) you tend not to play the games through, too easy to just boot up another one then another one.Much better to play a single game thru.
On balance though well worth it!!
yeh I found that too about not playing games through. Although getting games sometimes months ahead of the gaming public was cool.
The best thing about it is having four mates round and seriously hammering all the N64 multiplayer games. The best being ISS J-League 98 - that game even beats Pro Evo in some areas today (eg free kicks).
lol
as crocomire said i do indeed have one but its currently annoyin the hell outta me
the keypad refused to work so i bought a new one which worked once untill i put it all back together but now it does not.the menu button produces the rom backup screen which is supposed to be like the left+right buttons together so i dont know whats wrong with it
Sometimes you will need to patch a rom, or fiddle with it's header to get it working on different systems.
btw, I also found the same thing about not playing games all the way through. In many ways it destroyed the N64 for me -- probably would've been better to just buy Mario 64, Zelda, Goldeneye, etc and play them heavily.
oh man, I got the N64 when it was released and played all the major games VERY heavily (seeing as I could only afford one new game every few months...fifty quid a game, I ask you!). I remeber seeing this advertised in 'N64' (the best n64 mag in the world) but never got round to geting it *sigh* wish I had now.
And that thing about going through game after game, I find that with the gp32 as well. The last game I played heavily on it was Splatterhouse 3 for the genesis (Really cool game).
