Bluetooth sound

I'm looking into creating an .asoundrc that will split the sound of the default device to go to both the hw device and the bluetooth device using the multi pcm type. I'm just curious if someone else has already done this or if anyone knows of a roadblock I'm not thinking of?

Specifically, I want to be able to play ommpc over my car speakers when I'm driving. Step one is to get sound. The it's to get ommpc (or rather mpd) to use it. It looks like the car supports a play/pause so I'll eventually see if that can work to.

As far as I can find and remember, this thread has the most straightforward instructions on how it should work: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/bluetooth-audio.51116/

And this thread documents some of the limits to that solution: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/output-bluetooth-audio.63517/#post-1055145

I'm not sure why this doesnt work for everything. Maybe some apps ship with pulseaudio libs and use those - I found when I needed to start using a USB soundcard (because the internal sound on this laptop fell apart), my .asoundrc alsa sound config didn't get picked up if I used pulseaudio, so I had to configure that too. I can't remember where I did that off the top of my head though - I've found I did my .asoundrc config actually in /etc/asound.conf as I didn't want it to be user specific, and that may be better for use with pnds actually in case any of them ship with an .asoundrc and blat your user config. Can't find my pulseaudio tweaks though.

Thanks for the pointers. I hadn't stumbled on those posts. I hadn't thought about a pnd embedding pulse. (yuck) I had thought about them overriding the user's config file. I hope I'll have more luck.

Heck, that second link had a sample config file in mega-upload. I'll have to search around to see if there was ever an update link posted.
