i tried converting a stepmania dwi file to bxe and it worked. then i tried converting the song that was with it to ogg 96k and i believe it worked. then i made the songlist.bxs with only that song in it. put on my gp2x and it just freezes when i select the pack in beat2x.

i used manga maniac by s.e.x. appeal and used the same names for the converted files as they had before i converted them and everything, with no extensions in the songlist file but just the name sex appeal - manga maniac and nothing else so at total i have the bxe the bxs and ogg. thats all i need isnt it?

I had a similar problem with a stepfile I converted... It would just freeze the GP2X.
open up the BXE file and look down it.

You might see steps that have a number, but NO BUTTON assigned.
Either put a button, or delete the line completely.

I hope you understand what I mean ;)

It's when the step isn't one of UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, L or R, it puts the milliseconds but not the button to push.
dxi2bxe 1.1 doesn't do this anymore...

thanks ill try that.

Edit: ahh i still doesnt work? could it be the ogg by any chance?

I don't think it's because of the OGG. Remember that you have to convert newlines in text files (bxe and bxs) into Unix format (check the tutorial I wrote to know how to do it).

Use Notepad++ or Programmers Notepad. It can convert it for ya. Anyway, there is an error with the the dwi2beat2x thing. I got it both on the old version and new version, and on different files. (They even have regular bpm, no change (i checked) so i dunno).

Here a screenshot, the left is new, the right is old.

zzzzzzzzzzerror.png

I think this happens when the #SINGLE:... line and the steps are all in one line instead of:

#SINGLE...
8 Steps...
8 Steps...
8 Steps...
...

When there are two or more button press, it converts them like this:
Up-Left to Left, Up-Right to Up, Down-Left to Down and Down-Right to Right.
If there is a L or R in the step, it only uses the L or R, other buttons are ignored.

Thanks for the site, I also tried some DWIs from it and they seem to work.
It's the non conventional DWIs with bad lineskips or old formatting that always crashes the converter, new ones have little problems with the bpm but at least it doesn't crash.

Ok, about the single line thing. Where should I break the lines then?

Here's a sample line:
Code:
#SINGLE:BEGINNER:1:0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000060600000404000600040000060600000404000006060004000600000404000808000600040006000400060000040008080006000400060004000600000400060006000400040006000600040004000006060000040400060004000006060000040400000606000400060000040400080800060004000600040006000004000808000600040006000400060004000008000800080008000800080008000400080008000800080008000800020006;
Every 8 digits i should?

EDIT: NVM, i looked at another file.

Ok, now its not even converting a file that worked before. It gives an error 9 runtime something.

EDIT2:

Run-time Error 9
Subscript out of range.

Yay! I found a great way to make songs. I use an empty .dwi file with the correct headers (I use an audio program to find out bpm) and then i use Stepmania to create the beats. Then use furrtek's converter :D

Expect that 10 song pack done really soon. All custom made by me :D

Just so you know... you don't have to create a DWI file with correct headers. You can simply create a blank DWI file and StepMania will setup the dwi file for you when you come to edit it.

But essentially that is how I make DWIs. Get BPM from ACID Pro... then create blank dwi file and open Stepmania, edit away!

Ya, I use mixmeister for my bpm :D

Im so pissed, stepmania froze on one of my songs, as i made 1/2 the song already, the new version of the song is less creative :(

Hm, I tried creating a C64 pack using Stepmania and the converter.
While the pack is playable using Stepmania, it's a total mess when playing with Beat2x. The buttonpresses look more random than something else for me...

Any idea what I did wrong?

Looking forward to play those packs! :) Hope you solve your problems converting them into bxe.

The only thing I can think of is that your ogg file is messed up, so it plays slightly slower/faster then the mp3 in stepmania. Dunno.

EDIT: Converter 1.2 works great for me. And now with selectable conversions, I can make L and R and stuff :D

Hm. Weird. Can't be the ogg file, because I have thousands of arrows at the same time coming when playing with Beat2x.
Those arrows can't derive from an ogg...
(I also used the OGG to create the steps in Stepmania, I didn't convert it from MP3)

I hope to find the time to check it tonight, somethings weird here :)
