Battery Issue??? Got My Gp2x 15mins Ago

It will damage your GP2X. You are probably best off just sticking with rechargeables. I have some 2600 Nimh and they last for ages.

Thanks so much guys. I think I am going to go pick myself up some rechargables, I allready have a charger.

Those Alkalines you "used up" in your GP2X are probably still fine and can still be used in low-drain devices, so you haven't wasted those :)

You need a Nickel Metal-Hydride charger (NiMH) and batteries.

It is only like $20 for 4 of them and a charger at Wal-Mart, at Sam's Club they have a pack of 8 AA 2500mAh and 4 AAA and a charger for $25.

I dont remember which post it was from, but the alkalines simply cannot maintain the required voltage. If you use those used up alkalines in a gba afterwards, it'll last it for quite a while.

No, they cannot maintain the Current Level, thus the voltage drops, I guess it doesn't really matter which you believe.

Does any Distributor give a user's manual for this thing?? (I don't mean that joke of an Engrish manual from the Koreans) Or are they simply content to send it out to unsuspecting people without a clue??

Use NiMH rechargeable batteries instead of the regular, alkaline kind. High-drain digital devices only run with those.

That still doesn't sound right. I used those cheap Korean batteries that came with the GP2X and they lasted about 45 minutes.

If he isn't overclocking it shouldn't crash that fast. Maybe he got a duff unit.

Mine's the same way with bad batteries. I usually get about half an hour using these cheap, dollar store batteries, but some high quality alkalines I yanked out of one of those plug-in TV game things easily lasted a few hours.

why did you bought a pair of 1300mahs lol, waste of money if you ask me.

Not at all :p

I didn't have any rechargable AA's, didn't want to wait for delivery, so went down the local tesco's and bought 4 1300mAh batteries with compatible charger for £10.

They do for me, and I'm happy with how long they last - so why waste money on a higher capacity battery?

It could. Tried quite a lot of different batteries at the beginning, the worst batteries only worked for 3 minutes...

Your dad isn't wrong, as such, just a little out of date. Many years ago rechargables were absolutely rubbish but in the last 5 years or so they've now become massively superior in all respects to alkalines. Longevity, sustained power output all the way through to cost and recycling issues, they better. And unlike lithium ion batteries are less prone to exploding when they get too hot :)

Your average set of Duracells are around the 1000mAh mark, which pales in comparison to the capability of a decent set of 2500mAh NiMH rechargable batteries. It's not just a question of how long they last, it's a question of the maximum power output they can sustain. Your GP2X uses a lot of juice and when the power output of your batteries falls below a certain level your GP2X will fail. It doesn't take long for a set of 1000mAh batteries to fall below the minimum 700-800 mAh threshold needed to power your console, which is why they only seem to last under an hour in your GP2X. You'll probably find that even when your console dies, said batteries can still be used in low-power appliances for hours more until they're completely dead.

That said, I'm still amazed at how much power this console needs to run.

When I first got my 2x a few weeks ago second user, it had the original batteries, these lasted maybe 1/2 hour, I tried Duracell alk, I went thru 6 in six hours, I splashed out on some Uniross 2700NiMH and believe me, these last hours, not sure how many but I can get two days out of 2 batteries at my moderate play rate, maybe 3 or 4 hours a day. The supplied charger charges these in 1 hour for 2 or 2 hours for 4, quite expensive in Argos UK £29.99 but well worth it I think, I dont worry about things like batteries now.

I went to Sam's Club today and bought Energizer 2500mAhr rechargables. 8AA and 4AAA with charger for a whopping $22.00. Overkill but between the GP2X and the XBox 360 I should be able to use all the batteries and keep the other pair charged at all times. 4AAA? No clue but I have them if I need them. :)

My GP2X has been on for at least 3 hours and the battery still reads full.

EDIT- The batteries above got me about 6 hours use total. I consider it heavy use as I was constantly transferring via the USB and deleting and testing... turned the unit off twice for maybe 8-10 minutes total in that time. Good test IMO. Sticking with these batteries. :)

I told you :D, I bought those to prepare for the GP2X, had my brother test them, 9 hours on a GBA with a snakelight attached to it :) :).

My GP2X lasted pretty good on them, I would just drop a spare set in my pocket and swap em when at school and they ran out. (not that I played 4 hours at school, but I would run a set dead that I had been using the night before)
