Never heard of it? It's my current OS project. It will be based on ReactOS. It will use coLinux along with my custom coLinux distro to run Linux apps. And it will also run my custom .cloa applications* that rely on remote servers to do their work, so they can run smoothly no matter how weak a device is. So, Axerola OS will run Win apps, Linux apps, and .cloa files!

*Based on eyeOS 1.7.0.1.

from what I've been reading this uses qemu to run windows binaries.. do you expect better speed through this OS than the Pandora OS and qemu?

Well, if the windows programs run trough a remote server, they should be smooth, but that would require a constant connection.

Good luck on the project.

No, the Win programs don't run on a remote server, but, ReactOS is not based on qemu, it's made from scratch, along with a couple wine components running at the kernel level. ReactOS is still in it's alpha stage and it runs most win binaries (almost) without any issues. Although, that does sound cool to run the Windows apps remotely. Now that I think of it, it would be very easy to run the Linux programs in the cloud, by having coLinux act kind of like a remote desktop client. Does anybody know of a solution that would allow the win programs to run in the cloud?

EDIT: Yet another idea: If the OS were running on arm, but the server x86, then it would be easy to use x86 software on arm devices!

Citrix Presentation Server (or XenApp or whatever it's called these days) is the one I'm aware of; but I don't think there's a Linux client any more.

Getting ReactOS (or derivative) on the Pandora would be pretty neat though. I've been watching the project for a while now, very promising stuff. A nice free alternative to Windows.

Nice project, i am interested to see how this comes along.

Pretty interesting that MS isnt the first one to create a windows like OS that works on ARM :)

In the future when ReactOS reaches the 1.0 status, i would love to have it as a default OS for my Pandora(2?)

You will still need qemu to run those binaries om ARM though. Using ReactOS and Wine might give a performance improvement as the windows API and some libraries can run natively, but the majority of your binaries will still needs a processor emulator.

But you see, I also said that the server could be x86. If that were so, the programs wouldn't be running on the pandora, they'd be running on the server.

Only problem then would be the lag with rdp. That and the slow wifi on Pandora.

Wait a minute... nomachine is nothing but a remote desktop client/server. That's okay, but I need it to be integrated into the host, in which each application still appears to be running on the host. Kinda like this colinux screenshot:

Notice how Ubuntu Firefox looks to be a win program.

(Please pardon the vista, it's not mine)

It can launch single programs as separate window afaik.

Found a good one: rdesktop. It can be used for running the win and linux apps remotely, while my home-made client-server system will handle the .cloa files.
