Asus To Create The "first" Community Based Computer

Creating a community based computer is not an "Pandora-only" idea. I applaud Asus for doing this.
EDIT: Also, they claim to be making the first community designed PC not computer, there's a difference.

how dare they steal the pandora concept and claim to do it first?!?

sure, they "stole" the idea from pandora. how stupid can you be. anyway this is a somewhat interesting idea but will get flooded with stupid ideas from people who don't know anything about computers.

you mean from people that don't know anything about pc's? there is a difference you know.
call me stupid if u want (although I think its uncalled for) but I find it a pretty big coincidence that after the buzz that pandora made with its pre order that a big company is trying to partially mimic the pandora by doing the community thing.

btw, I never said it was a bad idea or that big companies shouldn't try the community thing, as I'm well aware they have, but don't claim to be the first.

I welcome more projects like this. They learned from the EEE that different approaches can start a revolution. GO ASUS!

I bet ASUS will be the first company to come up with an x86 based mid with good gaming controls because all other hardware manufacturers hire stooges to design their crappy overpriced power hungry contraptions AND I bet any device wont be released until a couple of years down the track when intel release a mobile platform that lasts on battery power for more than 2.5-3 hours and can fit in a normal persons pocket otherwise it'll just be a smaller version of the EEEpc with some extra buttons and a cup holder or some shit like that

Rant sequence complete.

Edited to remove all punctuation so it reads more "ranty"

It hardly looks like a 'community' project. Sure, they're listening to the community, but any forum for discussion (pun intended) would be too small an implementation for a relatively large company like Asus.

Still, its still a pretty reasonable approach for what they are aiming for.

I think he meant that in Vista there were a few stolen ideas from Mac OS X. :p

ok, I was harsh in calling OP "stupid" but still think its a ludicrous idea that the pandora "invented" community based pc. its not exactly a pc for one and gp2x came first which was developed with community comments in mind from gp32 users. other companies especially those that use open source software are designed around community feedback such as Neuros. being community based isn't really an idea that can be stolen and its not lot they are handling the same exact way as pandora.

actually its seems the asus "community" thing is more of a contest where you win your "dream pc" being designed (seems they have actual prizes as well) then anything like what is here. so you can criticize how asus is advertising this but claiming they stole the idea from pandora is far removed from any reality.

i think it was perfectly reasonable. i see no connection whatsoever- there have already been sites for mixing and matching pc parts and ordering it, why not just go with the flow of web 2.0? community based shit isnt new, lebowski.
