I totally forgot that XFCE has it's own app launcher (it's in accessories) !

To be honest, this is pretty much my ideal launcher... I don't need screenshots or any other info, just a nice big icon and a description. The program just lists anything in the menu, so all PND files work as expected.

As an added bonus, you can search for programs based on their description: If I type in 'nes' I get a result for gpfce.

The window is too big though. Can I mod XFCE anywhere to make it fit the screen?

Yeah, it does take a few moments to appear.

I'd love some kind of simple gtk app that does the same as this (but supports the shoulder buttons to swtich catagories. Er... some kind of native XFCE minimenu clone I guess?!).

If I knew how to write gtk apps in Python I would totally give it a go.
