Anyone Seen This?

You've never actually used SquidgeSNES, have you? At about 240 MHz SMW runs at a consistent 60 FPS, SUSTAINED. Not jerky, 0 frameskip. And it runs almost exactly that with the default 200 MHz clock. The whole difference between the two is definitely the efficiency of the video emulation... in speed and in terms of graphical accuracy and compatibility.

The XGP units might provide these benefits via the 3D processor, but I am trying to convince them to include the 2D one as well. Odds are they don't bother, but time will tell.

In the meantime, the best solution would really be fully-ASM graphics emulation code and (ideally) sound as well.

I am just commenting on what i saw in the video. The DS was noticeably smoother.

I really don't care about the XGP. Even if it runs SNES better it will suck playing with an analog stick. BAH, I will either suffer with the transparencyless GP2X or use my PSP for SNES. I don't know why you bother so much with the XGP, as far as trying to convince them etc. Not sure why you are so into the XGP.

If you watch closely the DS one runs alot smoother than the GP2X one though. It looks like it is about FS0-1 while the GP2X one is noticeably jerkier at FS 2-3. I would bet the GP2X one is OC ed to the max too.

Well, the gp2x Emu in that video is definately not the most optimized SquidgeSNES.
Music playing speed varies, which has been fixed long ago by Pepones Hack. It might also run without the MMU hack... mine runs smooth with no sound speed variation at 260MHz (which is far from being overclocked to the max)

Dzz (or whoever) should record a video of the GP2X playing Nethack with the impressive menu system. Maybe I'll do if no one else has done it by the time I get my new camera* in august.

* The Fuji F30, which I just can't articulate the excellence of enough.

If XGP takes some of my tips and makes the machine any sort of a decent improvement, and not just a GP2X with a 3D accelerator, it has the potential to be a good machine and development platform. Right now, though, it's vaporware. You're not a developer, so you wouldn't really understand where I'm coming from, I suppose-- I'm always on the lookout for good platforms to expand my work onto and future platforms to develop for. Foe example I'm sure you'd agree that any very high-end 3D title I were to develop, as I intend to do, would be best suited for an XGP system rather than a GP2X one. But you've no doubt seen me say before, I've suggested to GPH upgrades to the MMSP2 SoC utilized in the machine in future revisions, so it's not picking sides. I don't even see why someone HAS to 'pick a team' in your eyes (GP2X, XGP, PSP, DS). You're much too defensive, as though everyone is just going to run off and refuse to develop for your favorite console.

Is this happening yet AGAIN? I guess you'll know for SURE that the analog stick on the XGP will suck for playing SNES games, even tho the system has not even been released yet. That takes the cake, and is even worse than you saying that other released handhelds that you have never even tried suck because this or that reason.

all my friends call it either a gameboy or an emulator thingy
Yeah, it is too well disgused to be recognized as a mobile Linux Media Center PC and Arcade Machine PDA.

Hmm, LMCPCAMPDA, that has a ring (or something) to it (just like my tub!)

At least you cured your friends of the "PSP" curse :D.

And from behind! A bird? A plane? No, it's the GP2X running 3D original content and games!!

HA!.

no sorry they also call it a fake psp, they go "why do you bring that fake psp to school when you have two psps"

Now that I know you have a psp I respect you
