Sandisk has announced a 32GB micro secure digital card.

Given that the two SD sockets are the biggest thing on the Pandoras circuit board, is there any reason to continue using full sized SD cards going forward?

They're still a lot cheaper, and a lot harder to lose. I'm happy using MicroSD inside a full-sized SD adaptor, so I can swap 'em between my cameras, phones and other gadgetry as necessary. MicroSD definitely has flexibility going for it... but you could argue that they could build 32GB (or more) of storage right into the Pandora... is there really any reason to have two slots at all in a future model.

I think full sized SD is nice because a lot of us aren't going to want to blow a wad of cash on SD cards whilst they're currently a little overpriced, I, for one, have got bigger capacity SD cards than I have MicroSD... just knocking about and ready for use in a Pandora.

i have not seen a class 6 microsd with more than 4GB. ok, maybe somewhere out there there is a 8GB one.

you can miniaturize the nand, but sd is a standard, where the controller is on the card. and that is the bottleneck.

actually, xD would be much easier to miniaturize, since the cards are controllerless. but it lost the race...

there are tons of causes we would still use full size models.

* cheaper.
* less memory faults.
* faster.

and more gotta go, maybe post later

The device is big anyway, I doubt you'd save much space by scaling down to microSD. You will however be forced to pay more for your memory. SD cards are fine.

The full sized SD card slots can be adapted to accommodate both of the smaller SD sizes.

The full sized slots are a significant part of why I am buying a Pandora instead of a Nokia N900. Sure there are 32 gig MicroSDHC cards now, but when non-standards compliant 64 GB cards come out, which physical size do you think they will be first? (same goes for SDXC if they are electrically compatible with our slots (there is now hope for file system compatibility too!: in case one doesn't want to reformat, to keep the card camera-compatible)

I actually feel the exact opposite, on some devices there is room to fit a full size SD slot rather than use a microSD slot. I'm sure on most devices, i.e. smart phones, a full size could have been worked into there but for some reason (micro is 'hip' right now?) they use a microSD.

Sure, some devices that have microSD slots have them because size restraints but when room can be made I really wish full size SD would be used on devices. Reasons for the Pandora using full size SD:

1. Cheaper
2. Faster
3. Pandora is big enough for full size SD

Where have you been? There are loads of Class 6 8GB MicroSD cards, even 16GB ones too I think.

SDHC is good, but how about SDXC? A brand new cards, it will be avalible soon and the size is 2tb max! Still want to get latest harware $)

For my personal taste, the normal SD card has the right size, anything smaller results in less durability, faster disappearing somewhere and more uncomfortable handling I think.
