yep my cpu is running a 81c well not @ the moment coz i have a great whacking 21" fan next to my open case but why is it running so hot ive not been overclocking ive checked the fan thats fine i even took it off to find a load of congeald dust and crap (i left the heat sink on coz i have no thermal paste or pads spare) anyone have any suggestions coz i carnt keep this fan here im cold lol

That processor shouldn't run so hot. The only things that come to mind are:
A) Bad application of thermal paste (too much or too little)
B) Hard drive or Power supply are heating up, not the actual processor.

If it's the HD, get another fan. If it's the PSU, it could be overloaded.

Touch the CPU's radiator - if you can put your finger on it then it's not the CPU overheating (mayby faulty sensor as sugested?).

yup, if the heatsink wasn't connected properly, the processor would have jumped out of the socket by now, you have already said the fan is working ok, so I think your temperature probe is wrong.

If your system is stable, ignore it. If it goes bang - well, you were due for an upgrade anyway :)

Also, most of the AMD chips completely fry at 75 C, so it probably is a faulty sensor...

You're due for a new motherboard/cpu anyway, ewww AMD 1400..
waht about 100 C? mines been there before!
