I don't know if other people feel the same way about this, but I'm starting to think that the bootsounds should not be displayed under the "Latest Files" thingy in the File Archive. It's just that (and this is solely my opinion, don't hurt me please) the bootsounds aren't of dire importance compared to games or apps or emulators for instance, and every day tons of sounds get released and end up displacing the more useful apps, therefore not allowing such apps to be noticed.

This is just a little thought that I believe might improve the site's functionality. If anyone disagrees, speak up :)

Yup, that's what I said in the official bootsound topic.

I'm doubting the usefulness and the uploading of startup sounds. I mean, splitting or finding wav files suitable for a startup sound should be common knowledge. These definately shouldn't be worthy of being on the latest files list, since they take away the noticeablity of larger projects. Otherwise, might as well just put all startup sounds in a single upload.

Very, very unnecessary.

I personally think some of the bootsounds are fun.

But I also think this flood of bootsounds coming out is only a temporary thing. I'm sure that in time, people will stop caring about bootsounds and eventually the 'Latest Files' list will be nothing but real releases.

boot sounds are a good thing and they DO belong in the file archive. However, due to the fact people rarely make one and tend to make a pack they shouldnt be listed in the latest files. If anything there should be a seperate "Latest Sounds" bar on there somewhere.

But I dont think people should stop making them or uploading them - the problem here is simply asthetics; with so many listed its hard to see the latest programs etc before they are scrolled off.

I agree with TyBO the same thing happened with Gp2x Skins.

Where are the powers that be when you need them? Seems like they should do something about it.

* Appears in a puff of smog *

I'll do something about it alright!

(moving to suggestions) :p

... and here's my 2 cents:

I like seeing new links to these sounds ... I check 'em out, and move on ... same with new skins (for the main menu, selector backgrounds, etc.) I don't see them as spam.

Heheh sorry if it sounded like I was calling you a slacker

But I agree with most of the people: bootsounds are nice and belong to the File Archive, but they kinda pollute the Latest Files because so many of them get released so fast. Maybe a separate "Latest bootsounds" like Sephnroth suggested would be a good idea. Though it might be a hassle to implement, dunno.
