I work at Sharper Image and I noticed almost all of the GPS systems and a version of the ARCHOS wifi has the 800x480 4.3 in. widescreen touchscreen. I spent everyday after work looking at how they use the real estate. All screens are different makes and aren't as bright as Pandora will be. So I just wanted to know is some kind of standard resolution for a screen that size?
Yes, 800x480 is typical for that size. Also, I believe that it has been stated somewhere in the "our new machine" thread that the easy availability and reasonable price of LCD touch screens of this size (because of their widespread use in GPS systems) were some of the primary reasons behind its selection for the Pandora.
There was some kind of industry deal with a larger company that would have made a 640 x 480 a lot more expensive. Not that I'm complaining, I'll just use it unscaled for things that aren't widescreen.
Yeah, I remember reading that, so I searched on 640x480 and found this from craigix:
"If some of you have gone back though my posts over the last few weeks or months even I have dropped a few hints about walls we may have hit with certain areas. One of them is a 640*480 screen. It is not possible to use such a screen due to Sony having some kind of agreement with sharp."
