Well, it plays Quake .... sort of 3D, no?

well yeah its 3d but i mean i read that the specs are close to the psp and Quake.. well isnt really close to the graphics in the psp in the aspect of the psp being able to play games like GTA liberty city stories or in that nature... I am not putting down the gp2x but cause i know its open dev and alot of the games and software is free but it was just a question.. I am alittle bit of a GP32 newb.. so if you kid around with me i will take you seriously..

The specs are close for processors, but the PSP has 3d hardware, GP2X doesn't. the PSP and even DS are going to be capable of better 3d than the GP2x because the GP2X uses software 3d graphics. There is no way around this.
N64 isn't going to happen at near playable speeds on the GP2X. PSX emulation is being worked on, but whether it will have sound and be at playable speeds is unknown. 60FPS with sound is probably impossible (Though I would love to be proven wrong).

Okay so lets get serious :)

The gp2x lacks the hardware to pull off PSP or even the NDS quality 3D. That doesn't mean that the games that are developed won't look good just not as good.

Emulation of 3D based platforms is a far bigger task and shouldn't be confused with a systems abilities just because it can't emulate a PSX. :)

Ok thanks I got a better understanding now.. but one thing I just dont get is why you cant play the software from the GP32x on the gp2x? maybe its because of the company spilting or something i would think it would be like the game boy and playstation and be able to use older model software... not like the xbox 360  because alot of the software for gp32x looks really well made.. and alot more has been done

Using the latest gcc compilers, a lot has improved with how floating point maths is done via software.

Nothing like the hardware that are used in NDS and PSP, but it can still be much more archiveable then it was only recently.

Well, to try to run GP32 games on the GP2X, Is kinda like trying to run NES games on a SNES

For one, the SMC won't fit the SD slot, but also, the Hardware is diffrent, so you would have to port the software

Honestly if you want a commercial based 3D handheld with titles such as need for speed and GTA which are about 50 dollars each (american) then you want the PSP. The purpose of the GP2x is for homebrew developement, emulators, and maybe a few commercial games which focus on exceptional 2D gaming and possibly some fairly decent 3D games. We shall see.

I'll have to answer this quickly, but the gp32 is almost purely hardware based. All programs could directly access the hardware instead of going through a embedded OS. The GP2X as it stands right now is Linux based not a bad thing just differnt than the gp32. Upside lots of programs for the gp32 are being ported to the gp2x which is basicly the same thing.
