hi is it likly we are going to get a Rob Brown update for FW 2.0.0 i have yet to get a SD card that can handle the auto update..... i know these things take time and i dont mined waiting for such a helpfull thing....
thanks

kernel upadte wont be enugh for 2.0 we need a uboot updater as well.
but rob's gp2x is bricked right now, so i doubt there will be anything from his side soon

Yeah, it's not going to work this time I'm afraid. I just found a friend had a compatible 256 meg SD card and traded them on of my 1 gig cards for it. Now I'm a happy camper as I couldn't even get open2x or cramfs on there before.

I'm afraid a compatible card (or jtag) is necessary to get you out of the upgrade hell of 1.x firmware

i upgraded to v2 fine with my toshiba 512 card when i could never use it to upgrade other firmwares, had to do the hol start+ select thing

I did the upgrade to 2.0.0 with it (which is how I found out that it worked) and then asked if they'd swap. They could make use of the extra space for their camera and I wanted to make sure that I didn't have any upgrade problems in the future. It worked out ok for us both.

Is that possible with GPH ? ;)

I remember certain cards that worked on 1.0, but didn't on 1.2 (or something like that...)

Errr... yeah. I suppose "fewer problems" might have been less blindly optimistic

sliteist, what card have you got?

I've got an Integral 1GB (from GBAX) which would not work for upgrades. I found it was formatted as FAT16, reformatting it to FAT32 fixed the problem.

I now have fw 2.0 with the awesome ability to surf the internet from my GP2X while sitting a couple of feet away from my PC ;)

I have an even weirder problem with my sd cards,

I have 2 identical 2gb sandisk cards, with 1 card I can upgrade firmware and with the other I can't . (And there both formatted to FAT32 in windows).

But why the hell would you want to surf the net on a tiny 320 x 240 screen and no keyboard when you have a PC near by

You wouldn't! That was the point of my comment ( ;) is the emoticon for irony?).

I just did it it see what I needed to set up to get the routing/gateway set up to be able to access the internet. The hard part is thinking what applications this could be used for seeing that to do it you have to be connected to a PC.

I suppose you could download files directly (e.g. podcasts or games) but it's still easier from the PC.

Could use ntpdate to set the time but then you lose unless you leave the GP2X on all day.

I can't think of any networked games that would be better on the GP2X than the PC (except something like Zelda Four Swords on the GameCube where each player uses a GameBoy Advance as a controller and can do things separately that the other players can't see). I have managed to get the FreeCiv server to run on the GP2X (the client is a lot more work).

Don't know if anyone can think of anything useful.

Many SDL games use SDL_net for network stuff because it's easier. So if someone compiled SDL_net, a huge number of network multiplayer games would be available for porting.

I see. I might give it a go.

I'd like to have a go at an X server too.

I've build SDL_net - just need a game to try it with

Apologies for bumping this thread but i've been doing a search today and seen SDL_net mentioned in a few threads - did the gp2x libs ever get released ?

i was more referring to SDL_net but i appreciate i was maybe a bit loose with my terminology and perhaps a bit confused with my line of questioning - i'm wilting under the heat
