Can anyone even find the bloody patent on the analogue nub? I've been looking for a while at the USPTO now and I can't find it. Though admittedly, I suck at such things.
I must agree, however, that of all the systems to want emulated, the N64 is somewhere in the far off distance.
It had a few good games, but still, especially with the funky controls, it's 90% pain-in-the-ass with 10% good titles.
I think most people are also forgetting the PSP was sold at a loss. Licensing was its cash cow. There would be no such thing for this device so the console must be priced well enough to be profitable to craigix and co.
I had thought when I saw that earlier that that was a pretty neat idea, but I must agree with fusion_power that the ring seems a bit thin, I think it would need to be a little thicker, so that you don't "miss" your directionals. Aside from that, I really like the idea. I would highly recommend...
Umm, you obviously didn't see my post a while back with the d-ring and central analogue nub;)
Prior art, baby, and already parts of the community;P
Maybe a partial clamshell. A clear polymer overlay above the screen that can be closed or open, but only on the screen portion. When you need...
You're probably outta luck on that one. As you can see, the decision isn't in stone what hardware to put and what all will be involved. I'm sure any quote given would be pure unsubstantiated speculation until Craigx and co lay down the law on the hardware/fab/distrib.
DaveC, that design rules!
Javacat: I don't think the rapid plugin-plugout would be an issue. With something like 16 connectors to the controller for a full QWERTY keyboard on a desktop(less if the controller is integrated into the keyboard, but I wouldn't advise it as it would probably make...
The most common(ie, used in most PDAs and on the DS with exceptions such as the aforementioned iPhone), is a resistive touchscreen. This uses two thin polymer layers with conductive microswitched that make contact at the point the stylus presses down on. In order for this to work, the surface...
On the subject of TV-Out cutting parts of the screen out.
This is not necessarily the GP2X's fault. It's the trainwreck that is NTSC. Effectively, different TVs will cut out different amount of the broadcast. The only way around this is to design the content using 'safe zones' in which...
I likes the "Oops, battery almost dead!" idea. Integrate that with a Home screen and it'd be pure awesome.
btw: anyone else having a hard time viewing this thread in hi-fi mode? I have to go to lo-fi to readthe last posts then switch to hi-fi to reply or else I get a "file missing" error.
If this thing will have a touch screen, it must be recessed.
Otherwise it will scratch much to easily. It may need a front cover as well.
The iPhone doesn't but mainly due to expensive materials and patented and secretive technology.
Notice that PDAs, the DS and just about anything else with...
It's made of a highly resistive polycarbonate material that is impervious to anything a living organism could hurl at it.
*extra points to anyone who knows where that was quoted from
