ok, about 4 months ago i got a geforce 4 installed on my PC, i need a new processer to get the best of it thats besides the point, on my new graphics card there was a new connection thing, i asked the guy what it was and he said somethin like s-video and if i get a lead i can play my pc games on my tv, has anyone here done this? where should i get the lead?

yeah i got the cable.....if you live in the uk just head down to your local dixons/currys etc. Its really handy to watch videos and stuff on your tv......but sadly i had a few friends over and them combined with beer = it now only works in black and white.

it now only works in black and white
Try installing the latest drivers. Mine went black and white for a while in Windows (still worked fine in Linux so I knew it wasn't a hardware problem), but installing later drivers fixed things again.

is it rgb? is it hard to set up or simply plug in and install drivers? i cant wait to play emu's on my tv, especially snes and N64.

yea at xmas i had my pc setup on my tv, its pretty good playin emus on tv, specialy wi a psx joypad :D

but sadly i had a few friends over and them combined with beer = it now only works in black and white.

if its in black n white it might be set to ntsc, if it is, then change it back to pal and it should go back to colour ;)

I've used the adapter that turns the signal into composite (a regular phono plug) and for using windows apps it's disgusting,.. everything is blurry and flickery. but I guess if you were in a game or a film the blurring would be less noticeable.

A monitor gives the best picture EVERY time, only reason I think you'd use this is if you have a bigger telly or maybe a projector - then again, maybe the s-video output doesn't have these effects

Afraid s-video does....

Got a ATI Radeon 9700 with svideo out, and watching DVD's or DIVX is like watching them on a PS2 <_<

Good for playing mame though :D

When i canabalise my current pc to make a nice little digital/video/emulator.setop/music setop box for my pc going to see if i can find a card which gives the smae quality of output as a dvd player does when playing DVD's sure ther must be one!

Your seeing the difference between how monitors react + tv's react. Basically once your in game everything is absoluetely kick ass especially quake 3 :) hehe And movies look super you just have 2 try + hide the windows gui from judgemental eyes

hide the window gui?

Video players do when u view full screen... at least all mine do...

afraid movies don't look good....on a cheapo stand alone dvd player they look good on my TV , in my pc connected to my TV looks like its playing through a ps2 (poor) :(

What i mean is never seeing the gui on the screen eg like on tv tool you right click whilst your still using the monitor on the file you want 2 watch + it then launches tv out with the movie playing etc. Quality does vary greatly i had an old sis card that had tv out the quality was god awful now using an ati card + its pretty good if you get the filters right - windows still looks terrible on it specially the higher res you go :/

Using my geforce4 connected to a wireless transmitter beaming the signal to a 28" tv in the next room, the picture is perfect (when playing movies). Of course these days I don't bother with all that crap as I have my lovely DVX-6100 :)

I once watched a Xvid rip of Office space on a 28" widescreen using the TV out of my Geforce 4 and the results were damn impressive, the XP desktop was pretty poor though, I could barely read the icon names.
