I'm having a problem with my new gp32. I can run emus and games through pacrom but since i got it i cannot get it to install on windows XP as a usb device. I have the drivers etc as i bought it from gbax. Whenever i plug it into any usb socket nothing happens, it never recognises a device being plugged in. I have tried turning the gp32 on before and after plugging it in and also going to pc link before plugging in but still nothing. I tried it on win98 and nothing happened here either. Could this simply be a faulty usb cable or something more? I have contacted gbax but am waiting for a reply. Sorry this is so long, any help would be appreciated.

I bought it from gbax so it came pre regestered and with drivers on a cd. I went to the site and registered anyway, the downloadable driver seems to be the same as the cd version but whenever i plug into the pc it never recognises a new usb device, literally nothing happens, so i don't get the chance to install the drivers anyway.
Thanks for the quick reply.

This seems to be a more and more common situation with XP and i'm not sure why, maybe it is a simple fix but because none of my machine have the problem we can't figure it out.

Try powering upto XP, powering up the GP32, plug in the USB cable to the PC now very SLOWLY plug in the other end to the GP32 and see if you hear windows decect anything.

The crappy GP32 software & drivers incompatabilities is exactly why i'm currently hunting for some cheap SMC RW drives to give away free.

However almost everyone eventually gets it working with a bit of messing about ;) so keep trying.

I've practically given up trying to get my GP32 to work with my Win2k. On last Friday, I even formatted my C: and installed Windows again. Doesn't help, the GP32 just won't be recognized right. Or maybe once or twice and then it stops. Same with the gpDrive. Works once or twice but then not anymore... All my other USB devices work fine though. I also know almost nobody else has had problems with Win2k... So I start to wonder, like cravex here, maybe the cable I have is faulty.. or the connector on GP32.. *shrug*

Also got a card reader, but it was a used one and didn't work right (I guess there's some evil force trying to keep me away from using my GP32 >>> frustration!)... Probably have to get a brand new one some day.

same thing here on win98 pc... installed drivers, getting error "FAILED TO OPEN USB PORT" :/

Yeah, it's weird that it didn't work on win98 either which is why i was wondering if it was a usb cable problem. I've got a card reader so it's still usable but the original gp32 free loader doesn't recognise any games (emus or freeware) at all. I think that it's because the folders aren't set up correctly. Pacrom will run things regardless though, so it's working just little problems really. I've tried using the link up option both before and after connecting the usb. I'll try fiddling a bit more tonight, maybe it's a loose conection. Stay tuned!!....

Just as an update, no amount of fiddling can get this to work. Which is a shame. I think a card reader is the only way to go really. Which is a pain as i can't get the original launcher to work with any games. Pacrom works but it doesn't look as good...

Bst Advice buy a card reader at the same time, it's just easier!

I used to have problem with the usb cable, then I removed the choke from the cable (not supposed to be there anyway) and also removed the rubber block at the gp32 end of the cable to make a much more snug fit.

Squidge you're a genious!

The propblem has been fixed! The rubber connector cover was stopping the mini usb on the gp32 side of the cable from making a connection. Simple really. If you have a problem try cutting a slit into the rubber surround. The cable should click and lock into place.
So that's sorted, just as well since gbax.com never replied to my mail....
