Why the N-gage hate?

anyone seen the "black"phone? wow,. talk bout complete and utter racism. i mean, they even called the black phone!
You're not serious, right?

Anyway, the ngage, it would be good if:

The buttons had a better layout and didnt have that mobile phone feel.
The screen wasnt ridicuously small
You didnt have to hold it sideways to use the phone.
Changing a game wasnt a major decision.
It was comfortable to hold.

I'm another person that was expecting a lot, but got very little.

Bleh, I suspect a lot of the NGage dislike comes from Penny Arcade. They have a huge somewhat crazy readership, and wield a huge amount of influence over gamers (well those who use the internet to look at gaming stuff).

I actually own a N Gage and a GP32 and GBA with a linker.

I personally think the N Gage is pretty good really -

The thing everyone forgets is "PROGRESS" - OK so the N gage isnt perfect - far from it - but its not too bad for a first attempt. Everyone rembers the original gameboy - was that perfect - i dont think so !!!. You cannot expect perfection on the first attempt can you. It always takes someone to bite the bullet and bring out new technology - there will be a killer games fone sometime in the future but it wouldnt have happened if the N Gage didnt come out.

Anyway - i spend 4 hours a day on a train - i used to carry around my GP32, a minidisc player and a fone, now all i carry around is my N Gage (and no more missed calls because i dont hear the fone ringing!!!)

The N Gage does pretty much everything not excellently but OK, MP3 player and radio (in stereo which the 6600 is not) games which are OK not great (and with a proper pad unlike the 6600 and the wide availability of "cracked" copies - which is good) the ability to watch films in .RM and 3GP (which are not great quality but are actually watchable, and the frame rate and and quality do not matter too much due to the small screen size)

And as for the design as a actual fone its not too much of a problem because with me where i use the mp3 player and media players all the time i always have the handsfree plugged in.

So all in all i think they are actually worth buying !!!

I've seen penny-arcade a few times, But i've disliked the N-gage BEFORE that.

Good idea, Poor product.

well i think im about to buy an n-gage coz my phones knackered and i cant always carry my gp32 and mp3 player with me so i think it will be good :D

I was talking to a fella who works in a mobile phone shop and out of interest asked how well the N-Gage was selling. He said it sold surprisingly well over Christmas but the marketing is shite - it's being pushed mainly for gaming but take all that away and it's still a damn fine phone.

The N-Gage is a true computer. You can download whatever you need. A Route Planner around London? Got that. MSN Messenger client? Got that too. Currency convertor that goes online to get the daily exchange rate? An FM Radio when you want some light relief? An MP3 player to carry your own music?

C'mon, guys, it isn't that bad.
