I finally got a GP32 (Non FLU). My girlfriend gave it to me for Christmas. I have already flashed the new Euro firmware and tried the Open SNES9XGP emulator on it, and guess what... my GP32 does 166 Mhz with no problems at all. I'm so happy to be in the minority that can run their system at this speed. :D

I can finally try all these wonderful programs that I've been reading about for months now.

And to anyone who might be wondering, I think the screen looks AWESOME. Unless you are going to be playing in total darkness, a regular GP32 does its job marvelously.

hi! i ordered mine 2 days ago (along with one 128mb smart media card) and hope it will arrive before 1st of january (i'm from gemany... ordered from german shop www.gamefreax.de )

did you have any trouble with flashing the new bios?

No offense but how can you say the non flu screen is shit if your only comparison is a flu switched off.
From the loads of posts I've read there is a big difference between a flu switched off and a non flu. I have only seen a flu so I can't comment on how good a non flu screen is :p

From what I've read in these boards and others around the web, FLU GP32's with the light OFF seem to be MUCH darker than regular GP32s.

This is why you always see that people with NON FLU rave about how good the screen looks and at the same time people with FLU saying how they could not bare to look at the screen with the light off.

First of all, when you have a FLU, you get used to the light and then when you turn it off everything will look like crap (because you are already used to the light) and on top of that, now the screen is even darker than usual, so of course you are going to think that a NON FLU sucks, when in fact IT IS GREAT.

I still stand by my original post, unless you are going to be playing in total darkness or in VERY LOW light, a standard GP32 will do JUST FINE.

My mate has a non flu, its not MUCH darker. it is slightly darker tho. both me and him think that the flu is a worthwhile extra but if you cant afford it then its no biggie. basically id say if you hav the cash to spare then get it, if you dont then dont.

i play with the front light off all the time to save battery life, and i can see almost perfectly if i am in good lighting conditions.

Lucky lil!

I cant overclock with the non-flu i got for christmas!

:(

I got a FLU for christmas (Can overclock to 166, just like my non-FLU). They are both sitting in front of me, and I can't see any differance at all in the brightness of the screen! :)

i can overclock to 166 also, excwept every now and then it crashes, but it doesnt happen alot

You are all complete fools.

The FLU is just a regular GP32 with a hackjob light added to it. The actual screen shouldn't be darker. As jcbnetwork pointed out there are probably psychological reasons why you would think this, but honestly, the FLU is just an added bonus, not a neccessity.
